Description

Surprised, this woman asks, "How are there humans here?!" Taylor, now sure that this is reality, answers, "Would you believe it if I told you?" The cat states, "Try us." Taylor says, "We sort of time traveled here. Some friendly folks from the future turned my vehicle into a starship-type thing that doubles as a time machine." The woman exclaims, "Wait! We were warned about this in our preflight tutorial! Someone tried to assassinate George W. Bush in 2002 with an integrated plasma beam, some dude claiming to be from the 32nd century!" Taylor comments, "Those time travelers can be a sneaky bunch, but assassination isn't on my agenda!" Smiling, the girl introduces, "I'm Kelsey Parker, commander of the Interstellar Exploration Ship Pegasus ll, and my science officer, James Farthing." Jim, taking a second from licking his paw, says, "I prefer to go by "Jim". I'm not much of a fan of English names." Garlaxas looks down at her native clothing, noticing that she's not properly dressed, presses a button to turn it into a stellar cartographer's blue uniform, shaped to her non-humanoid body. Taylor asks, "So, are we able to follow your ship on your voyage?" Kelsey answers, "Sure! This is our maiden voyage, and we plan to be the first Earthlings to reach the edge of the Universe!" Taylor states, "We'll let you get all the credit."

Tony flies Taylor to the lowered ramp of the Hawking, so he can get in, and as the Pegasus ll becomes airborne, following the DeSoto rover returning to its mothership, the back door of the van closes, with Taylor taking off and following the ship. The Pegasus slows to allow the Hawking to catch up. Taylor lowers the holographic display, which usually shows the times the Hawking arrives and departs from and hails the bridge of Kelsey's ship. This is like a more futuristic version of Zoom, or what was predicted in Star Trek. Taylor can see Kelsey, seated behind Jim and Garlaxas. Kelsey exclaims, "Hey! There's our honorary crew!" Taylor asks, "Can you warn us before you make the jump into warp, so I can make the preparations on my ship?" Kelsey replies, "Sure! We are actually starting now!" Both Hawking and Pegasus power up their respective warp drives, distorting the light from their surroundings, and zip off. At the highest warp setting on each craft, 100 million light years a second, the Milky Way instantly disappears, replaced by a blue-shifted field of hundreds of thousands of galaxies, a seemingly infinite array of ways to be alive, if life is common. Glax being only 5,000 light years from Earth, which is microscopic in cosmic terms, is a great sign that intelligent life not only possible, but common throughout the Universe. A couple minutes later, after traversing 19 billion light years, beyond the detectability of Earth-based telescopes, the Hawking drops out of warp together with the Pegasus, in a star system within a galaxy at the very edge of the Universe. Jim exclaims, "We made it! Haha!", before headbutting Garlaxas and Kelsey, the way cats "high-five" each other. Kelsey hugs Garlaxas, same way that scientists overseeing, for example, the Philae lander touching down on Comet 67P during the Rosetta mission of 2014, did. TO BE CONTINUED...
