Assalaamu alaikum [Peace be to you],
The appropriate response is "Wa alaikum assalaam" (And upon you be peace.)
The Noble Qur'an reminds believers to reply to a greeting with one of equal or greater value. the God Almighty -Glory be to him- said what can be translated as:
"When a courteous greeting is offered to you, meet it with a greeting still more courteous, or at least of equal courtesy."

The Prophet Mohammed -peace be upon him- used to greet people with "Assalaamu alaikum," and encouraged his followers to do so as well. This helps bond Muslims together as one family, and establish strong community relationships. It was the practice of early Muslims that the person who enters a gathering should be the first one to greet the others. It is also recommended that a person walking should greet a person who is sitting, and a younger person should be the first to greet an older person. When two Muslims argue and cut off ties, the one who reestablishes contact with a greeting of "salaam" receives the greatest blessings from the God almighty.
the prophet -peace be upon him- is reported to have said:
"I swear by the one whose hand my soul is in (meaning the God almighty) that you will not enter paradise until you believe. And you won’t be believed until you love one another. May I tell you something, that if you practice it you will love another, spread the salaam (Islamic greeting) among you."

This makes it clear to us, that spreading salaam among Muslims is the first step towards paradise. This is because spreading salaam leads to increasing the love between our hearts. And the increase of love between our hearts will increase the Imaan (faith).

Why don't you enlighten us about the intricacies of Islam then, instead of just accusing him of spreading propaganda? Clearly, not everyone interprets the holy Qu'ran the same way as you. Such is why we have Radical Muslim terrorists running around. Besides, he says not to argue with him on his own page, but that you may do so on your own page. So, whose fault is it when you get blocked? It might be his fault for blocking you, but it's your own fault for not abiding by his guidelines. He still somewhat respects free speech. He likely just doesn't want to be bothered with people disagreeing with him to his face. That's my opinion, though, and feel free to disagree with me.

by definition, tolerance means "the willingness to accept feelings, habits, or beliefs that are different from your own"

I don't block everyone who disagrees with me. I only block those who want to use my page to propagate lies and misconceptions and those who use foul language and disrespectful words. but this doesn't mean I don't allow people to disagree. I believe everybody has the right to disagree. but one shouldn't mess other people's pages.

I agree. It's one thing if you want to state your opinion, but it's another thing when you harass (which I suppose is a good word) someone with it. Blocking people is a reasonable action when the latter happens. Of course, it's unfair to everyone else, but what can you do?

I'm not blocking comments altogether. usually I let them open. I like to see people's opinions on my drawings and the articles, even when they disagree with me. as long as they state their disagreement respectfully. but some controversial articles attract trolls and haters they mess up my page, so I just disable the comments. when one person is so annoying I block them.
but I never block people permanently. after few months I always empty my block list to give those people another chance. some of them mature with time. and as long as they don't bother me again, they are welcome in my page.

I took a class last semester called Global and Cultural Perspectives of Faith in which our professor was this Nigerian Catholic priest that opened every class with us saying "Shalom, Namaste, and Asalamu Alaikum" to each other. I was wondering if this is appropriate if none of us were Jewish or Hindu and we only had two Muslims in the class. Can I say this to Muslims?
