Description
The word "harpy" in ancient Greek means "snatcher", because harpies were visualized as spirits of sudden violent gusts of wind, and were said to snatch away people suddenly and take them away forever. If someone vanished without a trace while traveling or something, it was said they were carried off by harpies. Wouldn't it be nice, though, if instead of lurking waiting to do you harm, they were hanging about ready to lend a helping hand? That WOULD be nice. Also "cyclops" just means "round-eyed". Don't know why one-eyed giants who built high walls, forged weapons for the gods and devoured sailors should be named for the SHAPE of their single eye, but whatever.
