(Completed in Fall 2020. Soft pastel on steel gray Canson Mi-Teintes paper, measures a little less than 8.5" x 11".)

So, the assignment for this project was to re-design a book cover. I chose to re-design the cover for Warriors: Graystripe's Vow, using soft pastels because I was using them for a drawing project and liked them.

In the middle, we've got Graystripe. On the left, there's Gremlin, and on the right, there's Fang; these are two major characters that show up only in this book. The background is meant to be representative of how long Graystripe has lived, how he's revisiting his past during this book, and all of the cats he's seen during that time - we're looking through time.

On one hand, I wish I was doing this in-color and with more detail, so that we could see all of those cats. On the other, this cover doesn't work quite as well if it isn't grayscale, considering that Gremlin is a tortoiseshell and Graystripe and Fang are both gray and black.
