Actually it got canceled because Nickelodeon canceled the contracts of pretty much every animator that was working with them at the time. Zim was just a casualty of Nickelodeon trying to overhaul things.

It was a little too weird for nickelodeon. It belongs on Adult Swim, and will eventually make its way there, I bet. That show was just so fucking crazy, nothing made sense. It was hilarious.
