Springtrap is exaggerating because he's miffed.  The Nightmares are hollow, and they have a lot of space between the leg pieces and the waistpiece.  Springtrap simply took the nearest escape route.  If it gives Nightmare a bellyache, too bloody bad!

To answer the most obvious question, "Only when it's funny."  (thank you, Roger Rabbit.)

EDIT: Silly people!  The Nightmares are hollow.  They have no digestive systems.  If they did, how could Plushtrap have made a nest inside Nightmare?

This is just great! ;3 What would have probably been really bad, though, would be if Springtrap had been holding a paint grenade then Nightmare's mouth stomach would have probably had a paint geyser for a few minutes. Nightmare's tongue would have been in turmoil. X'D
