Previous: Next:Here's installment of the comic that started out as outtake reel for Requiem with a Birthday Cake and since devolved into any dopey FNAF gags that come into my head.
This comic is part of a story arc which starts with Springaling 22: If Looks Could Bruise . Sorry about the lack of larfs with this one. I blame the bitten child. He's just not all that funny.
I'm not too certain of the yellow doll in the cutscenes. At first glance it appears to be a Fredbear (AKA Gold Freddy) doll, but why doesn't it have ears? Where is the microphone, and why are the hat and tie purple? In fact, the dabbles of purple elsewhere--the fan, for example--have me wondering. Bright purple is the color of danger and evil in this game. A purple fan looks bizarre and unnatural, practically calling out for attention. I can see why the Nightmare Fredbear wears purple, but why the doll? It appears to be a benevolent presence, watching over the boy, warning and comforting him.
I can't help thinking that Scott's going to throw us a curve ball when the DLC drops. (He said it would be on Halloween, but we know how he is about deadlines: they're made to be jumped.) If that happens, and we find out something terrible about the earless yellow doll, remember that I posted this before the other shoe dropped.

Alright Ian/Puppet, nice job! Is the ghost puppeting the plushie the one who possessed Golden Freddy?
Also I like the touch in the first two panels with the bite victim, how the top of his head fades into the darkness. A nice subtle touch without resorting to gory details!

Yep, that is indeed the ghost of Gold Freddy. That one has the task not because the doll is the same character, but because of similar experiences.
Thanks for noticing the head-fade. I gave a bit of thought to how to show him as damaged in his own imagination. I went for "incomplete, fading away."

Yeah I figured that would play a part as well. In fact I'm sure there are people out there who think those two are one and the same. (I'm hovering towards that camp myself but this is your version of the characters and I think it works quite nicely.

Oh, OK. There's a certain logic to that, but given the child's terror of Fredbear, I don't think that's the case. If he has to be one of the haunts, I'd put him in the Puppet. But if that turned out to be canon, I'd be rather saddened. I like to think of the Puppet as being the strongest of the group rather than a helpless victim.

I guess that does make sense, however seeing as the puppet was the one who helped the others possess the animatronics (Give Cake, Give Life) maybe they didn't have a choice.

I don't know. I don't like to think that The Puppet is so powerful that he could make the children haunt the suits. In my headcanon he is more of a shepherd. He can lead the horse to water and try to persuade it to drink.

Well if he was the first victim he'd probably be strong enough to help the others if they needed it, but I see where you're coming from and really enjoy your characterization of the Puppet!

Thanks. Before FNAF 4 came out I was worried that somehow The Puppet would turn out to be a villain. But in the FNAF2 cutscenes he was trying to help the children...I finally figured that he's very protective of them, which meant attacking those he perceived as their enemies when he wasn't being distracted by that bleedin' music box.

You're welcome. Yeah I've always thought of the Puppet the same way, but I've always wondered why the music box distracts him. It seems really odd.

I haven't come up with a better explanation than it tying in with the mechanism that works his box or strings. When it winds down, he's finally free of their constraints and can move freely. It's thin, but it's all I got.
I picture him curled up in that box with a Game Boy, playing Tetris...
