Description
W.O.W(For Lela)
till just now
i never stopped to wonder
why the sky seemed even more blue than usual
it never occurred to me
that the clouds moved with even more reverence than usual
i never questioned
why the leaves were more green and the flowers more bright
i thought nothing of
the sweeter than usual chorus from the birds in the backyard
led by hand up the stairs
i didn't comprehend
what this day meant
all, way too new
me, much too inexperienced
to begin to know what to expect
me, at the foot
you, on the bed
peacefully mocking the constant bustle of the outside world
while you slept
who knew that such a small heart
could contain so much feeling
of all the emotions
running unbridled through my soul
threatening to explode
amazement
awe
love
disbelief
and the most poignant
fear
you were so perfect
skin so soft
so flawless
i was afraid to touch
lest i disturb
lest i hurt you
and yet
i had to
if not for my own irresistible desire
but from the gentle coaxing from my side
i look up
and realise for the first time
that i'm still holding his hand
i hear the words
"she looks like a doll"
creep out of my mouth of it's own volition
and a reassuring smile urges me on
slowly as my hand reaches toward her
one word
greedily monopolises my mind
insistently making itself known
in a screaming whisper
while pushing all other thoughts away
and then
i touch her
Wonder Of Wonders
she is real
my newborn baby sister.

That is so touching and wonderfully written. And how nice to see some outpouring of love towards a sibling, I wish more people would realize the treasures we have in brothers and sisters. Wonder of Wonders indeed, thanks for sharing such beautiful words.

This is not only beautifully written, but such an expressive outpouring of love that it literally made me melt. I read the poem before the description. And half-way through i thought it was a love poem of another kind. Then the last few stanzas came unexpected and yet so perfectly, and it gave it an even more beautiful depth, as I discovered it was about your sister. What a beautiful dedication. What a lucky girl she is to have such a loving brother. You are an excellent writer.
