Description "Sexuality is a choice? Okay... So when did you decide to be straight?"

Most scientists today agree that sexual orientation is the result of a combination of biological, hormonal, emotional, and environmental factors - meaning that there are many factors that contribute to a person's sexual orientation. Most agree that sexual orientation is not a choice, and it cannot be changed.

Still, some people claim that sexuality is a choice, and that homosexuals and bisexuals are simply choosing to sexually deviate from the 'norm' of heterosexuality.

Why would people choose to be homosexual if they knew that their parents and family would disown them if they knew? This point by ~MinZki !
If sexuality is a choice, then when did you choose to become straight?
If sexuality is a choice, why don't you choose to be gay? If it's so simple to change what sex you are sexually attracted to, flip the switch for a day and choose not to be attracted to members of the opposite sex. Only become aroused by members of the same sex. Seriously, do it! I'd like to know how that works out for you.

Point is, sexuality is not a choice, no more than our skin color is a choice, or our natural hair color. It's just a part of who we are, and people who claim they can change are just fooling themselves. That's all I've got to say for now on this topic.

By telling myself that I like men. When my hormones kicked in and I wanted sex, I chose men over women. Β People need to get over their selves and take responsibility for their own actions.

I can't really say anything about your personal life, but when it comes to many, if not most, other people (including myself), sexual orientation is not a choice that we can consciously make. Β I did not make the decision to be sexually attracted to both men and women. Β But here I am, attracted to both men and women. Β

Like many people have said in the comments above, if being gay was a choice - why would anybody want to be gay? People in the LGBT community are treated so poorly so often. People - even today - are assaulted, beaten, raped and killed for the crime of being gay, or being lesbian, bisexual, or being trans*. Β

You only have to look to places like South Africa, where lesbian women live in fear of gangs of men who seek to 'cure' them of their homosexuality through "corrective rape," to see what sort of a life many LGBT people have to live with every day. Β

Transgender people, even in America, still face serious acts and violence such as loss of a job, school bullying, sexual assault, denial of medical treatment. Β From 2008 to 2012, over 1,000 transgender people were murdered worldwide. Β Source

In most African countries, homosexuality is illegal -- and in Uganda, a bill calling for life in prison for "aggravated homosexuality" may soon come into effect. Article: Uganda's Gays Fear Violence in Wake of Anti-Gay Bill's Passage.

These are the conditions that people have to live in every. single. day. Β I have to ask again, why on earth would anybody consciously choose this? Β It's because we can't have a choice. Β Yes, we can choose what actions we take, but our sexual orientation? No.

You're not born gay. That's really what I have to say. And the "proof" that your more likely to be gay if you have older brothers is a complete lie (I read the article btw). My uncle is the youngest of eight children, six of whom were boys. All are "straight" (I say this in quotation because I feel that there should not be a term for it). The same occurrence goes back generations in my family (the study they did was only among 1000 people, not enough for a real study, I think).

W-WAIT WAIT. Excuse me?
Nothing else to do? Um... Okay. I was beaten up in highschool because of my sexuality, I hid in my own locker from people who wanted to beat the shit out of me, I had guys who raped me thinking that I would magically become straight if they did, I fought my way through school quite literally, and I even had teachers who made fun of me for all of this.
And you want to say I had NOTHING ELSE TO DO?! Okay, bitch, you want to know what me 'nothing else' is? I have a father who HATES ME for my sexuality as well. If I could have become straight then I would have. I tried to force myself to sleep with a good friend of mine and I puked on him before he could get his shirt off. I live with a family that the day I came out and said i was gay, THEY TOOK MY GIRLFRIEND AWAY FROM ME. They restricted me from seeing her to a point where we got so pissed off with each other that we broke up. I was with a girl who was so scared of being in a long-term relationship that she broke up with me constantly until the day of valentines day I about killed myself by ODing on aspirin and was in the hospital for my 19th birthday. That same girl is now engaged to me after YEARS of working through her commitment issues and I've been working MY ASS off to make enough money for us to hopefully move in together some day and be happy.
YOU WANT TO TELL ME I HAVE NOTHING TO DO?! My life is just as hard as any straight person's life! Only difference is I got twice as many boobage in mine.Β
So i'm sorry, but

Do you think that I've volountary being attracted to the other girls? When I would just prefered being attracted to guys, so my family wouldn't made fun of me?Β
Do you really think that if I really would had a choise, I'd choise to born this way?

It makes tears in my eyes.

When your 'Opinion' begins involving a group of people being labeled by biased and fallacious stereotypes, it's no longer an opinion, but a moronic accusation. A very...VERY moronic accusation. You don't know every single gay. How do you know "They don't have anything better to do?" Every single one, too?

Most of homosexuals these days are gay mostly for attention or some sort of fad.

So that must mean EVERY SINGLE FUCKING ONE IS!!!!11!!!!111!

Haha, no. I can assure you, my best friend's bisexual and rarely ever mentions it. I also know a few gay people who are the same way. Not every gay person is out for fucking attention, and you're an idiot for thinking that they are.

And don't you dare say "But it's my opinion!" because like I said in my last reply, according to your 'Opinion,' complete STANGERS you know jack shit about are only attracted to the same/both sexes for attention. That's not an opinion, you're stating it like it's a fact, and all you're doing stereotypically labeling.

Stop trying to act like this fad is something new or something that deserves sympathy.

"Gays" THESE DAYS are ruining the gay culture for the REAL HOMOSEXUALS. Fake gay people say they like the same sex to be "unique" when it really makes them look pathetic, which in turn makes me feel sad for the actual gay community.

"Most* These days*"

You should've explained that a LOT earlier. When you say, "People are gay because they have nothing better to do," it sounds like your talking about all gays, not to mention we have, "Sexuality is DEFINITELY a CHOICE!!!!!" to back it up. No offense, but it sure sounded like you were talking about every single one.

"Stop trying to act like this fad is something new or something that deserves sympathy."

When the fuck did I say it was? I'm defending real gays, not people who pretend to be gay. When did I defend the latter? Like, once?
