I can't wait to find out more about the Author, and why he a had a laser rifle across his back. Also, I'm guessing that Bill was the one who helped him created the machine, because the Author said in his notes "The machine was intended to create knowledge, but I was misled. It is too powerful, and could bring about the destruction of the planet," or something like that.

The only thing I find dumb about this show (because I absolutely love the rest of it) is that it took them a whole season to think about using black light to see if there's invisible ink in the journal. Seems like the kind of thing someone like Dipper would try almost immediatly.
