A frozen, ancient dragon's scale-- One found originally by one of his fathers amidst a pile of rubble after a particularly strong earthquake that shook the region.
The scale itself once adorned a great dragon that once roamed the more northern lands of the continent they lived upon, until the beast met its untimely demise due to an unfortunate series of events. The northern lands were once a normally cold one where the dragon feasted upon plenty of snow-bound animals, but then climates began to shift as they may do with time. The north began to get hotter, and the south cooler, which inevitably forced the dragon to migrate southward. Sadly enough though, quite a few animals of the north that its diet consisted of went extinct due to such a change, with only so many of the animals managing to migrate as the dragon did.
Times were tough for the dragon from there on out-- food was limited, so it had to try and limit itself. After all, if it hunted more than the reprodtuctive rate of its natural food source, it would slowly run out of food and truly die-- it was smart enough to know this. Despite its efforts, it just couldn't live well with such a limit, and thusly began hunting as it normally would. What it said would happen, happened, and it eventually ran out of its natural prey. They got much more scarce, if not outright extinct. The dragon felt shame for its actions, and knowing how it was specially adapted for colder climates and would suffer in warmer ones, it would be extremely hard to get more food from there on out. Eventually, it began hunting a bit more around the middle-climate areas, though it could only do so much in that area with new prey that had unfamiliar habits to itself. After a long enough time, the dragon finally began to starve, and soon enough decided to take its last sleep upon its original brith mountain in the north.
It took a fair amount of time, but the weather shifted once again, with the north becoming the frigid lands it once was. By that time, the dragon was nothing but a pile of bones and scales upon the mountain. Through the frigid weather and natural crust changes to the planet, the dragon's scales and bones were buried a short ways into the mountain, the remains being frozen and preserving the still color-bearing scales quite well. Many millenia later, a atrong earthquake struck the region and unearthed several of the frozen scales, some of which a particular Nebnom found when he went to check to see if there was anyone in trouble in the area.
Personality:
As a result of some minor influence from his trinket, Wintervale tends to be on the cool and calculating side. The determination and persistence in him is strong, and he seeks to try and achieve whatever task is laid out before him-- so long as he doesn't have to do anything wrong to do so. Contrary to how he comes off at first, he can be a bit hot-headed-- especially when it comes to doing things in a certain way. If he thinks one way is better than the other, it can be a bit difficult to convince his stubborn self of the other pathway being better-- even if it truly is. Given all is going well though, Wintervale is pretty average when it comes to his willingness to speak with others. While that may be so, he tends to prefer smaller-sided hangouts for most occasions. Whenever he's at a hangout with friends, he sometimes lets is humorous side show through-- he's the type to say a joke or pun in the most casual way, wait for the others to catch on, then finally smile and chuckle once they all get it.
Hobbies:
-Hiking/Camping
-Skiing
-Climbing
-Hunting
Occupation: Ski lodge front desk receptionist
Background:
It all started with a single scale... Once one of his wolfish-themed fathers found it, he saved it as a potential souvenir-- given, at the time of the earthquake, the two were taking but a simple vacation to the planet they were currently on. Sure, it may have been to yet another wintery area, but it's always neat to see the varying cultures and takes on how others deal with the cold and all! It was a couple years after that event when his fathers finally made the decision to bring a young one of their own into the world, and they chose the scale that one of them had found for his trinket. The simple reasoning was that there wasn't anything else around that they saw fit enough as a trinket for him-- what else is better than a scale from a dragon, after all? From that scale and the nebular put forth, his matteregg came to be, and his fathers protected it fiercely. It took a little more effort to keep the matteregg at proper incubating tempurature though, given the colder environment and off-the-grid log cabin they lived in. Even with that difficulty, his matteregg seemed to incubate just fine and without any issue, almost as if the trinket used made it more durable against the frigid air. Enough time passed and, soon enough, young Wintervale finally hatched.
As Wintervale grew up, he really thrived in and enjoyed the cold weather, even if his fathers insisted on him wearing some form of jacket to keep a bit warmer on some days. Given their slightly more remote location, as he grew up, he learned some pretty useful skills-- woodcutting and hunting being the primary skills, with the secondary skills being things such as foraging and climbing. He would use such skills daily, as most days involved him going out with one of his fathers and helping hunt, forage, and cut wood to continue living on comfortably where they were. Such work helped him to become a pretty fit and strong Neb, just like his fathers!
Time passed on, and soon enough, Wintervale was getting to be the equivalent of one who had recently became a young adult. While he enjoyed his time at his fathers' off-the-grid home, he always found it a bit... lonely. He didn't get to know many other Nebs besides his fathers and the few others that were in similar homes that were pretty spread out, yet still reasonably reachable by foot. He may be a bit solitary-sided, but he was still pretty interaction-sided too! So after asking around and learning from his fathers, he figured out the perfect place to go to-- while it may be on-the-grid, it was a lovely city pretty far out from where they were currently. The city was closer to the warmer side of the planet, but was still well within the colder region-- enough so to have a year-round large ski park! He thought that aspect to it was pretty interesting, especially after he heard what it was all about from his fathers.
With the support and some financial help from his fathers, Wintervale finally made the trip towards the city with his fathers. While he could do it alone, it wouldn't hurt to have a bit of extra emotional support and aid in the form of getting a good apartment found and set up for him. The trip was as it always was on foot, given their experiences, and they eventually did come upon the city. They were quick to get a hotel room for them all for several days, and in that time, Wintervale was at least able to get an apartment found and rented-- the job and vehicle would have to come a bit later given the time and money constraints. When his fathers left, it was a bit emotional for him, but he always knew that, if he ever wanted to see them again, it would be a shorter ride away by vehicle... when he manages to get one. With the help of the first month's rent from his fathers, Wintervale managed to land a job at the local ski lodge, whose first paycheck helped to fund some of the bills and for some extra furnishings besides the sleeping bag he had to use. From there, Wintervale was able to slowly get into a rhythym, and he was able to get into a more stable situation of work and homeplace setup. He was finally able to feel a bigger sense of normalcy after that point-- he enjoyed his job, his apartment home was wonderful and now nicely decorated, and he even had a vehicle to visit his fathers with (very much worth the monthly payments, he would say)!
Fun Facts:
-While Wintervale loathes the warmer seasons, he has no problem with and very much so enjoys hot chocolate! Saying he can't like one without liking the other will elicit a rude gesture from him.
-Wintervale loves his job, but a big aspiration of his is to try and get into competitive skiing! Making a living off of something like that would be an absolute dream for him.
-He doesn't have much of a sweet tooth for things outside of hot chocolate, peppermint, and vanilla cake/ice cream.
-Between him and his fathers, Wintervale was the top one of the household in terms of successful hunts.
-Another effect his trinket has on him is a desire for some form of flight, which results in him preferring air travel over vehicle travel when it comes to anything a long enough distance away. This also gets him to occasionally look up if it'd be possible for him to obtain wings somehow! Until then, skiing will have to do.
-For winter holiday traditions, one that is ALWAYS a must for him in his household is making homemade snickerdoodle cookies. Other stuff such as the typical holiday music and such is a completely new experience for him upon his new arrival to the city, with such stuff not being particularly disliked... save for certain holiday songs that are always constantly on repeat, it seems.
