Description
Two years ago, I began a series of drawings based on my own reimagining of the Nickelodeon cartoon series, "My Life as a Teenage Robot."Now I've decided to go back and update my design for Jenny, as well as showcase a few more ideas I've had for Jenny and her friends. ^^
--
- While MLAATR was a short-lived episodic series, I always felt that the series never really lived up to its full potential. For my version, I really wanted to play out the whole "Robot/Human" duality angle with Jenny (Left). Specifically, on how she's made. When Jenny starts having surreal memories about a childhood she never experience (Being a robot, she never ages), she becomes worrisome and confronts her mother about it (Top-Center), fearing she might be malfunctioning somehow. It is there when her mother, Nora, reveals her true origins. Unlike Jenny's sisters, who each had artificial intelligence designed from scratch, Jenny's consciousness was recycled from a deceased young woman who had donated her body to science (Hence, her very human-like hologram face and quirky personality). Nora took the girl's subconscious and uploaded it into a super-computer. She reorganized the consciousness, erasing all previous memories (Well . . . Almost all of them). Later, she took the remnants of the newly constructed consciousness and transferred the data into a smaller vessel, which would later become Jenny's body. Jenny is utterly shocked by this news and is outraged by her own mother's actions. While Nora only did this to protect Jenny from the psychological scarring, she deeply regrets not telling her earlier, nor is she proud of taking such drastic measures when designing a robot. While she regrets her decisions, only one thing is certain. She will always be proud of XJ-9, not only for being her greatest achievement in robotics, but for developing into a fine, young lady any mother would ask for.
- When her mom invents a prototype for a virtual reality simulator, Jenny convinces her friend Brad to check it out with her. Jenny had tested the out simulation for her mom previously using her own hardware by simply plugging herself into the system, whereas as normal human like Brad would have to wear a helmet made specifically to hook their brainwaves into the simulation. When the two go in, they materialize as their very own avatars. Jenny's avatar is drastically different from her robot form, resembling a more humanistic form, since her mother had programmed an avatar specifically for her (And no, they're NOT naked! Their avatars are simply designed to have a mannequin-type form with featureless figures, with the exception of heads and faces). Jenny and Brad spend a majority of their time racing each other through the vast, empty void of the yet-to-be-finished simulation. When the two finish flying after each other, Brad stops and acknowledges how cute Jenny's avatar is. Jenny blushes in bashfulness by the compliment becoming slightly teary-eyed.
- Sometimes, Jenny uses the virtual reality simulator as a means of getting some major alone time whenever she gets angry or extremely emotional about a current predicament (Lower-Left).
- One night, Jenny reactivates her sisters, the previous XJ models, and the group heads out for a night on the town, eventually ending up at a dance club where they dance the night away (Lower-Right). I had a lot of fun redesigning Jenny's sisters.

I'm not gonna lie. If there's one Nickelodeon series I would LOVE to see revived into a movie, it would be MLAATR. One of my biggest dreams is to take all of my ideas inspired by this series and make them come to life in a feature-length film. I would design it as my own personal homage to the original TV series, as well as a throwback to old school sci-fi films.
If I were to design the soundtrack, it would mostly be in the same vein as Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), which would gear towards nostalgic value, as well as reflect bits and pieces of Jenny's personality.
Here's the list of songs I would choose for the soundtrack:

One question: does she still have the strength of a million & seventy men?

I'm not sure. But I imagine she'd still be pretty strong. Of course, those lyrics from the original theme song could just be an exaggeration.

That always did baffle me. It was when the fight with Gigawat that Wakemen actually said that while everything about her body is machine. Her mind is the one thing that could not be replaced. Just look at her sisters. They are stuck as they are. None of them can change or adapt. Jenny is the only one who can. If only the show could have explained it a little more.

I know, right? I always thought it was strange how Jenny's sisters were only defined my one, predominant personality trait, whereas Jenny herself typically retained a wider range of personality.

Cross your fingers and hope that this series could return. We already have Jack & the PPG. Who knows what might return next?

Also, your backstor of Jenny is pretty much awesome!
I also wanted to create my own remake of MLaaTR! But in my version, Jenny would be a lost daughter of Vexus - Fruto (Got it? Vega and Fruto? ^__^)

Looks pretty much nice! But i have a question..
Why you're using songs from bands, but not songs from videogames?
I'm saying that Videogame music is a lot better than music that you choose ^_^

Interesting idea. Teenage Robot was never a show that I thought was particularly great, more like something to watch in the interim of waiting for something else. However, this idea is rather cool and I actually wouldn't mind seeing it produced in some way. Kinda reminds me of Dark City a bit.
Wow, that soundtrack. It definitely fits, but man is it poppy.

I think so, too. MLAATR wasn't a great series, but I do think the show's creator was on to something with the concept. I do like a lot of the ideas involving a robot with teenage sensibilities.
I'm glad you support my ideas for it! ^^
Thank you!
lol Yeah, but it does fit very well, since Jenny tends to have a very "poppy" personality.

Don't Worry nerdsman! When I become a tv-producer I WILL revive this series. MLAATR: Rebooted.
(Just need to wait 6 to 10 years... )

Why was there a need to update the design? What specific aspects needed to change?
Second, now that you mention it, that amount of potential for Teenage Robot is something it was lacking in all along, not have it strictly constrained to the dimensions of comedy-action that Rob Renzetti and co. were able to manage, and this pet project you're conceptualizing is actually something I could see you totally fulfilling! I never realized how passionate you were about Teenage Robot to want to revive it yourself! Go for it, Ken! Just don't stray away from the original source material to the point of dis-recognition.
Third, those songs you listed for the soundtrack; you listened to them while you drew each of these concepts, fess up!

I updated it because I wanted a better design to better represent my vision.
I made some slight adjustments to her head design and I gave her an actual torso, rather than just two segments separating the upper half and lower half of her body.
My initial idea was to make a faithful reimagining that stayed true to the heart of the original, while still operating under its own terms.
I'm glad you like my ideas for it! ^^
Yes. Yes, I did. I also listened to a few movie scores when those songs got too repetitive for me. Specifically, the soundtracks from Pacific Rim and Tron Legacy.

Specific tracks from those scores, or the whole scores?
Lastly, I never imagined Brad taking up the guitar...and can't quite imagine what sort of music he'd have learned to play...
Besides, Sheldon doesn't seem to have a role in this premise so far.
