This commission was far more conceptual than my usual work but was a fantastic challenge. The inspiration behind it was a poem written by the commissioner:

Defiant

A man upon a pillar stands
Rings of iron in his hands.
Shoulders hunched with burden held
Though cracks show him nearly felled.

The man of glass is clearly made.
Though cracked he stands, still unafraid.
Head thrown back, glares to the sky.
It echoes back his soul deep cry.

The chains held to his rings are taut.
Price is paid, the prize is bought.
Immovable this glass man’s hell.
His fate he knows full deep and well.
