"What is this?" Twilight sparkle looking from the envelope floating in front of her to Dinky who was looking at the ground

"It's a letter," Dinky answered and looked up at her, Twilight looked back at the envelope

"I can see it's a letter," she answered sarcastically.

"You can open it if you want," the little filly looked at her teacher with hope in her eyes and Twilight smiled

"Thank Celestia for that, the suspense was killing me," she said with the same sarcastic tone as before, the filly looked up at her

"It's from my mum," Dinky looked at the ground again, a faint blush on her cheeks

"Your mum?" Twilight looked at the little filly with surprise, she had never told her about her mother before, she had heard about her good for nothing father but never her mum.

"She wrote it for us when I was eight years," Dinky smiled again but hold her glace on the ground.

"I see," Twilight looked at the letter again, turning it, it was labelled 'To Dinky, From Mum'

"You can read it if you want to," Dinky looked at her with a bright smile and eyes full of hope, Twilight opened it and started to read "Out loud," Dinky said softly

"Dear Dinky, I must seem a distant memory…" Twilight hesitated and Looked at Dinky again, the filly's eyes shined with anticipation.

"Which is…?" Dinky continued enquiringly

"Which is probably a good thing," Twilight looked at the filly and continued to read "Although it would have been a long…" she stopped up again and sighed

"… Long time," Dinky finished, a light smile on her face "And I will have missed you growing, I'll have missed you crying and I'll have missed you laugh," the filly's eyes watering a little as she continued "Missed you stomping and your shouting, I'll have missed telling you off." Dinky sniffled a tear running down her face "But please, Dinky, know that I was always there. I was with you trough everything. And please Muffin…" Twilight held round the crying filly and continued reading, letting her cry silently

"But please, Muffin, know that I will always be proud to have known you, proud that you were mine, proud in everything. And you must promise me this, Dinky," Twilight blinked away tears from her eyes and continued "In everything you do always be yourself, Dinky, and you always will be true," she stopped again, finding it hard to talk trough the lump in her throat.
"Love you forever," Dinky said, looking at the letter, then back to Twilight, who gave a shaking breath before reading up the last thing on the letter

"Mum," she whispered and Dinky smiled trough her tears and hugged Twilight, whispering a little thank you before carefully folding the letter and placing it in the envelope.
