Description

I thought of this when I was going to bed the other night when I put my phone down in a dark room and it was lighting up an Enterprise toy I have.

The mesh that's on this post is a spotlight probe that's used to light up something in darkness.

One thing that influenced the design of the USS Enterprise for Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) was that in deep space, there's nothing there to light up the Enterprise.  So Andrew Probert gave the Enterprise self-illumination.  But if there's a derelict in deep space, nothing to illuminate it.  The Enterprise-D had spotlight on it from the episode, "The Pegasus," but even then lights can only go so far before it becomes too dim and keeping a distance is always a good idea.

So there's a probe that uses tri-magnesite and trevium which those materials are from, "Operation: Annihilate," with its own thrusters and booster rocket to maneuver to light up whatever is in the darkness.  And guessing those materials can be recycled on the ship even though high power LED lights can easily work.  The probe is not visible on the image because it's very small, but the ZIP file has it in DWG, DXF, 3DS and OBJ formats.

As to the TOS Centaur as featured here:

There is a story behind that image based on this:

Which I might do up later.
