Whenever I see Brawn get shot by Megatron and Starscream, he gets hit on the left side, and how is that fatal?

The blast from Megatron's fusion cannon penetrated Brawn's tough exterior, and the white hot shrapnel ricocheted inside of him destroying his cosmotron and spark chamber -- or severing power to it before he could go into stasis lock -- despite the blast going through.
I thought of the action scene when I was putting Megatron's sword into him in alt mode. And having Optimus Prime using his energon axe on him. And using a stance I've been learning in tai chi and recalling what I do remember from taekwondo -- which isn't much.
EDIT: Yeah, the more I think about it, his legs should have gone the other way. Oh, well.
