From the original Star Trek episode "The Paradise Syndrome."The Enterprise fires a near gigavolt antiproton beam to divert the asteroid, but cripples the ship beyond self repair.
The theory is based off of Star Trek: First Contact where the Enterprise's deflector dish is charged with antiprotons, and makes sense with space debris beyond a certain mass.

In the past I always thought since I could baffle Enterprise Series launch its beam deflector , if actually looked more like a single transmit antenna.
