Pompeii seeks out Vigil to speak after they hadn't had some time to talk to each other alone. He looks up to Vigil; he considers them as close a parent as he feels he can. But he's worried- and Vigil isn't acting like he usually does. So he tries to extend an olive branch- which Vigil does not appreciate.
