200 years ago the, so called, "power virus" was released upon the world by a being known as Doctor Void. It attacked the DNA of its victims either rewriting it or merging it with some aspect of the environment around them. Approximately 10% of humanity was immune. Of those that were not, approximately 5% were killed by the transformation with the remaining population gaining some sort of power.

Three types of powers exist: Manipulation, Biomorph, and Boost. individuals may display one, or a combination of two. The average person's power useless or negligible.

Manipulation, the rarest, allows the individual to affect some form of matter or energy. Individuals with manipulation typically only have one power, and if they have another the manipulation is the more dominant.

Biomorph results in a display of features and/or abilities of a non-human organism. Biomorph frequently appears in conjunction with boost and in some cases it can be difficult to distinguish one from the other.

Boost is the most common type of power. As its name implies it amplifies, or "boosts", some aspect of the individual's physiology. The most obvious examples are strength and speed, but boost can affect the senses, digestion, and aging among other things.

An individual's power can manifest at any point from birth to young adulthood. However each power comes with what has been dubbed a "weakness." This is either a limit or side effect of an individual's power. Powers can cause a behavioral quirk, result in one power cancelling out another, just make life difficult, or in extreme cases actually cause physical harm when used.

David Leven possesses two boost powers, One that increases his speed and one that increases his durability. He is able to reach incredibly high speeds and endure friction and G-forces that would kill an ordinary human. However, he is unable to slow down. His mind, muscles, his entire body functions at superhuman speeds 24/7. He perceives all outside stimuli as moving incredibly slowly. In order to understand and communicate with people around him, David must wear a headset that speeds up the voices of others and slows down his own speech. Despite this equipment, even the shortest conversation seems take a laboriously long time.

Because of this difficulty communicating David became very introverted and tended to avoid speaking with others. However, he always admired the self-proclaimed "super-heroes" and was overjoyed when he was given the opportunity to study with fellow speedster known as Doc Hermod. Taking the name Double-Time he strives to protect his city as the Silent Defender with the Speed of Sound.

Double-Time:
powers- Boost speed: entire physiology functions at superhuman speed, able to perceive and respond to visual stimuli especially quickly
Boost durability: able to withstand extreme friction and G-forces, can crash through a brick wall with minimal injury.

weakness- unable to slow down
perceives auditory stimuli poorly
requires headset to communicate with non-speedsters

equipment- friction-proof suit
headset speeds up outside noise for him, slows down his speech for others
