I can't explain how emotional this made me, it was even more intense when I read the title. I let out an audible cry of pain when my brain processed what I was seeing. I wish there was more I could personally do to help the animals in Australia. All I can do is hope...

Man, this is a really good piece. A major thing that hits me at the core is the amount of suffering of all the wildlife in the fires. I work in food service and deal with hot food in boxes that physically hurt to touch all the time, so it's really painful to think of animals feeling that but ALL OVER and worse since flames are so much hotter.
I like how you made them like protective fire spirits? It's haunting and tragic but also very beautiful.

Good news!! All the fires are now contained and most of them have been doused by the torrential rainfall. While that means that the fires are almost over, the next wave of properly assessing the damage can now take place. It's going to hurt hearing how many animals, homes, acres are gone, but now we can spend the time in recovering and helping the people and animals affected by the fires.

I saw a burned to death koala on our TV news here in the US. It broke my heart. They predict a harsh fire season here in the US this summer due to drought in the West and South West.

I was watching a video about a guy in Malllacoota rescuing Koalas with his pupper.
Steve Irwin would be proud of everyone helping save the wildlife I think.
