Description This was a project for my ceramic sculpture class. We had to choose something and rebuild it in a different scale. I chose my Schwinn Point Beach Cruiser. After the first day of building it I put the pieces away in a spot I hoped was safe only to return and find someone opened the bag and broke some of the more fragile parts. That set me back a little bit and I had to rehydrate whatever survived. If that hadn't happened maybe I would have been able to finish the wheels. I did make them on the final day before firing, albeit poorly, but they were so fragile, the professor and I decided to scrap them instead.

After they were fired I brought the pieces home, attached them with hot glue because I needed something fast. The hot glue turned out to be an awesome idea as the glue looked like actual welded joints after the bicycle was spray painted black, and then gold, and then a supposedly metallic but more glass like transparent red. Luckily many people thought it was metal anyway. The following morning I had mom drive me to school while I held this piece to keep it safe. Amazingly I made it with no problem. And the hot glue held up really great surprisingly. It started to fail a little near the end of the class when professor and classmates took pics as you can see with one of the pedals. Luckily a classmate was able to give me a ride home with only a little mild damage to the piece.

But from all the showing off my parents wanted to do it accumulated more damage until I finally decided to spend the day repairing it January 25, 2010. I used JB weld to give it stronger joints and after that dried I propped it on my desk and turned my back to set up its new place in my room. After spending a couple minutes setting up I took a step which I guess was a little harder than normal because I heard a slight stomp sound and then a loud crash. This sculpture completely shattered to the point where I decided to call it quits and crushed the rest of the pieces myself in disappointment and throw everything away the following day. I knew it would break some day but I thought it would fall apart on its own or something. So I wasn't bummed that it broke but I was upset that I wasted the day repairing it before I could redisplay it again.

At least I got a few pics from professor and a classmate.
