Well...I think this one is probably going to make some people happy (or at least I hope so!), as much as it made me whilst creating it. Since I began illustrating The Shadow, I've been slowly adding more and more stuff to these pieces and I've become comfortable enough with the character so as to even have other characters around him (The Rocketeer being the first one: [link] ). So, now I've taken things a step further and added a legend some of my watchers mentioned as another one that HAD to be brought into my depictions of The Shadow's adventures... The Phantom.
I was always very fond of Lee Falk's creation, mainly because it was a very good mix of the old pulp style and the superhero genre that was to come; The Phantom was actually one of the first (if not THE first) to have the -now classic- eyes of his mask without pupils (amongst other things).
This depiction also marks my first full-coloured work involving these characters, because I just had to take advantage of the jungle environment and The Phantom's costume.
So, continuing from the last image I brought you all in this wild crossover set in WWII, I present you this one, which I hope (as I said above) you'll enjoy as you did the previous.

WOW, this drawing is like a dream come true! I have all three movies and if I watch one I have to watch the other two right after. I REALLLY hope you do more and would to even buy a print of this! XD

The movies are great in their own way, but I recomend you try and find an old pulp or comic about them three, and you'll be really amazed at how good they were too!

I have found old The Shadow magazines, they collected those all together. I also have most of the old radio shows. I still need to get The Rocketeer comics and I tried to keep my eye open for Phantom comics but they don't get carried by many comic stores. But the movies are still something I love watching, usually cleaning house and such.

Yeah I love the retro 40s stuff, some of the first comics I read were old reprints from the era and the cubist style of art deco design used during the time (reflected in the most in The Rocketeer) has had a huge influence on how I draw things.

I was a huge Phantom fan when I was a kid, dug through my uncles treasure trove of old comics many a summer.

It's great when you find comics that way: as an old treasure; because that adds a lot to the whole mysticism of them.

my dad and uncles old comic collection was a virtual gold mine, spent many a rainy day (and quite a few sunny) holed up in the loft and digging through all the old Comics, particularly the Phantom and Shangshi (absurdly detailed kungfu comic during the Bruce Lee craze, he's featured a couple of times in Marvel comics, he'd kinda fit in your drawing =3 being all old school nostalgic)
and there ofcause were Splint&co, Spirou I think is the original title in french. don't know if it even known outside of europe??

Thank you, Sarah! I'm happy that my imporving my perspective shows, because it's something I've been working on lately.
I don't mind you asking at all! I honestly can't remember if I'd told you before either, so here it goes again: I use a brand named KURECOLOR. They're japanese and quite cheaper in comparison to Prismacolors or Copics, though their range is limited compared to those too; but I find they challenge you to try some new techniques to mix colours too, so, it's all good in the end...

To say that you've me 'happy' is completely insufficient. I am, once again, awestruck. The Phantom has always been my favourite comic star, and to drop him into a pulp setting with these two feels, quite understandably, very natural. Brilliant.

These guys would make a fine addition to the League of extraordinary gentlemen some 30 years later. Especially the shadow is one of my all-time-favourites. Great work!

If only we could get old Alan Moore to add them, that'd be fantastic, though the problem is: these are all american heroes, and the League consists of (to this date) british gentlemen... though, knowing Moore, he'd probably whiz something up to have them
