My god you have no idea the sheer pain and art block I went through for over a year and a half to finally finish this damn ref. sheet. I couldn't be happier to wash my hands off it!

First of all, that front view fullbody sketch was made by my dear friend Avian-king , whose anatomy knowledge was truly invaluable throughout this whole ordeal.

Some people from chickensmoothie might recognize this fella. Hugo has been one of my main characters for nearly 10 years, and I even had him turned into a custom pet on CS. Now he is also a protagonist in a script project of mine for an animated featurette, which was part of my graduation thesis in late 2019. During the project development, I got to flesh out Hugo as a character to extents I never expected, and as such I felt the need for a major design revamp. His original look simply didn't fit anymore.

So well, who is Hugo? Or even, WHAT is Hugo? Simply put, he is what I call a Closet Monster. A strange creature that hides in the shadows of a child's bedroom(often inside closets or under the bed) every night, seeking to feed on their nightmares as they sleep. These monsters have a very otherworldly look, resembling a big mix of animals with very intimidating traits, such as sharp teeth, long claws, deformed bodies and overall a macabre complex. However, the truth is that they are completely harmless to humans, and will only use their claws and teeth to rip up Nightmares to shreds(depicted in one of the ref. sketches).

Hugo and all other monsters have the mental age of a five year old. When visiting human homes, they are only interested in sating their hunger and nothing else. In rare occasions, a child may wake up in the middle of a feeding session and panic at the sight of the massive, intimidating creature hovering over them. Such incidents started the well known myths of boogiemen and other menacing monsters hiding under kids' beds.

I might upload more of my Closet Monster characters, I have plenty of sketches piled up. I just wish I could give them a proper ref. sheet like this without... you know, going absolutely mad with stress XD. We will see.
