Description      (Heh...it's just a LITTLE long...heh...not several pages long or anything...certainly not five pages with 4043 words...)
(Y/n) perched on the side of a large, seemingly endless hole. The abyss of darkness wasn’t frightening to the human, as she deemed herself worthless for being unable to assist her father while her mother got drunk and wasted money on futile, unnecessary things. In all honesty, (Y/n) was ready to be whisked away or killed; after all, the legend stated that not one soul left Mt. Ebott after climbing it. The girl was partially hoping to die, and make it easier for her parents. An argument played in her mind as she stared down the gaping hole; should she jump? Or should she not? Not jumping would ruin the purpose of coming, but would it truly be a good idea? A sigh escaped (Y/n)’s lips as she/he stood up; they wouldn’t jump. They turned around to leave, only to have a small, white cat leap onto her/him, sending both the human and cat down the colossal gap.
(Y/n)’s head burned in pain. She cautiously glanced at her surrounding, blinking in surprise at the fact she isn’t dead. She was lying in a patch of bright golden flowers, sunlight from the distant surface beaming on them. The rest of the room was dark, though a bouncing shadow was faintly visible at the start of what appeared to be a corridor. Hesitantly, the nervous human stood up, approaching the figure. A loud meow echoed through the room, triggering a giggle from (Y/n); it was just the cat. Scooping the cat’s fragile body in her arms, (Y/n) resumed her path along the corridor. At the end, there was an entrance-like space in the wall. (Y/n) proceeded through it, to find a room that was almost entirely filled with darkness. A flower sat in the middle, within a small patch of light, a smile shining on its somehow-existing face. (Y/n) blinked at the odd sight, but ignored it to the best of her abilities. Of course, it didn’t take long for her curiousity to win over her mental decision to avoid the flower. She perched onto her knees, careful not to drop the cat. She extended on of her hands, and felt one of the golden petals. Immediately, she knew the flower wasn’t fake. She moved to poke its face, but it spoke, both stopping and catching the human off guard. “H-hey! Back off! Er…I mean…Howdy! I’m Flowey. Flowey the Flower! Hmm…You’re new to the Underground, aren’tcha? Golly, you must be so confused. Someone ought to teach you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do. Ready? Here we go!” (Y/n) didn’t have time to speak-nor the cat time to meow- before everything faded into darkness except for her and the flower, Flowey. A bright red heart appeared in front of her, floating and giving off a small amount of light. “See that heart? That is your soul, the very culmination of your being! Your soul starts off weak, but can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV.” (Y/n) poked the heart, sending it flying forwards. It rammed into an invisible force field of sorts, stopping completely. She glanced at Flowey, “LV?” Flowey responded quickly, “What’s LV stand for? Why, LOVE, of course! You want some LOVE, don’t you?” (Y/n) stared at her soul, willing it to go left. Immediately, the red heart moved to the left. She felt her cheeks light up slightly; she always was easy to embarrass, and her soul wasn’t enough to distract her from the flower’s words. “Um…Flowey, uh…I don’t think…” Before she could finish, Flowey spoke, “Don’t worry! I’ll share some with you!” Flowey winked and stuck his small tongue out-who knows how he has a tongue,  but then again, he IS a talking flower with a face-, white pellets appearing around him, “Down here, LOVE is shared through…Little white…’friendliness pellets.’ Are you ready? Move around! Get as many as you can!” The ‘friendliness pellets’ moved towards (Y/n)’s soul, causing her to instinctually maneuver the heart away from them. Flowey’s expression darkened slightly, “Hey buddy, you missed them. Let’s try again, okay?” (Y/n) frowned; Flowey obviously wasn’t just trying to help out. Flowey sent new ‘friendliness pellets’ at her soul, but, once again, she avoided them. An extremely irritated expression formed on the flower’s face, “Is this a joke? Are you braindead? RUN. INTO. THE. BULLETS-friendliness pellets.” Once again, the pellets were sent towards (Y/n)’s soul. The suspicious female noted how Flowey said ‘bullets’, and dodged the pellets-or bullets- again.
Flowey’s expression became a demonic version of his smiling face. His voice mutated into a dark, hissing tone, “You know what’s going on here, don’t you? You just wanted to see me suffer.” A ring of bullets appeared around the human’s soul, “Die...” Half-hearted laughter echoed through the air, while (Y/n) panicked and tried to keep her soul away from the approaching bullets, even though they seemed a tad slower and more hesitant than the previous ones. Just as one was about to hit her soul, they disappeared. A confused, slightly relieved expression formed on Flowey’s face before a white flame obscured him from sight. When the flame disappeared, a goat-cow person was standing in his place. A caring expression was on her face, “What a terrible creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth…Ah, do not be afraid, my child. I am Toriel, caretaker of the Ruins. I pass through this place every day to see if anyone has fallen down. You are the first human to come down in a long time. Come! I will guide you through the catacombs!” The darkness molded into the room once again, (Y/n)’s soul disappearing and the cat cradled in her arms once again. Toriel smiled at the sight of the small creature in (Y/n)’s arms, “This way.” Toriel walked through an entrance just past where Flowey had been. (Y/n) looked down at the gray-eyed cat, who merely offered a grumpy meow. (Y/n) sighed, and set the little cat beside her. “Come on…I guess we should follow her.” Even though the cat would much rather take a nap, it followed (Y/n) into the room Toriel had went in. A sudden burst of light met the duo’s eyes. The cat didn’t care, but (Y/n) hissed in pain and rubbed her vibrant (E/c) eyes until they adapted to the brightness. Toriel had a concerned look on her face, “Are you alright, my child?” (Y/n) chuckled awkwardly, “Yeah…so, uh…now what?” Toriel turned around, and walked up the stairs of a large, towering building. She stopped at the top and turned to face (Y/n) while she waited for the human to follow. (Y/n) led the cat towards the stairs, but paused to poke a glowing, swirling yellow object. A smile formed on her face as DETERMINATION filled her being, and, in small, scratchy white letters, ‘file saved’ appeared on the yellow star-like thing. A yowl broke (Y/n)’s concentration, and she looked up to see the cat beside Toriel. Quickly, (Y/n) ran up the stairs so that Toriel wouldn’t have to wait any longer. Wordlessly, Toriel entered the building. (Y/n) and the tiny creature who had become her companion followed the person-who (Y/n) inferred was a monster- into the Ruins. “Welcome to your new home, innocent one. Allow me to educate you in the operation of the Ruins.” Toriel stepped on four of six large gray buttons on the ground and pushed a switch. Afterwards, the entrance to another building opened. “The Ruins are full of puzzles. Ancient fusions between diversions and doorkeys. One must solve them to move from room to room. Please adjust yourself to the sight of them.” (Y/n) nodded, glancing at a sign as she followed Toriel into the next area. “Only the fearless may proceed. Brave ones, foolish ones. Both walk not the middle road…huh…okay then…” Brushing the sign off, (Y/n) examined the next room. In the same purple brightness, a yellow lever with writing of the same colour stood out. Two bridges were going over bright blue water-or at least, that’s what it looked like- the farthest one leading to two more levers, one of which had writing beside it. Toriel stood beside a sign, which read ‘You know how to read signs, right?’, a pretty useless sign; if you don’t know how to read, how could you read that sign? “To make progress here, you will need to trigger several switches. Do not worry, I have labelled the ones that you need to flip.” Toriel spoke in her calm, motherly voice before standing on the farther bridge, blocking the path. (Y/n) nodded, and tugged the switch down. As she did so, she read yet another sign, which stated to stay on the path. Once lever was activated, Toriel smiled warmly and walked farther down the path. As (Y/n) crossed the bridge, the cat ran to the two levers, batting at the one Toriel didn’t label. “No, no, stop. Wait a moment, okay?” (Y/n) rushed to stop the cat from messing anything up, but the lever seemed to be broken. Tugging the correct lever, (Y/n) turned to Toriel, who clapped, “Splendid! I am proud of you, little one. Let us move to the next room.”
Toriel walked into yet another room, earning a sigh from (Y/n). She just wanted to-well, she didn’t know what she wanted, but it wasn’t to roam the Ruins, waiting for some random thing-like flowey- to try to kill her. The next room was mostly empty. A dummy sat in the room, the only other things within it being Toriel, (Y/n), and the cat. Toriel spoke upon seeing (Y/n) enter the room, “As a human living in the Underground, monsters may attack you.” This filled (Y/n) with nervousness, but she let Toriel finish speaking nonetheless, “You will need to be prepared for this situation. However, worry not! The process is simple! When you encounter a monster, you will enter a FIGHT. While you are in a FIGHT, strike up a friendly conversation. Stall for time. I will come to resolve the conflict. Practice talking to the Dummy.” With that, Toriel went to the end of the room and stood by the exit. Awkwardly, (Y/n) approached the Dummy, “Hey…? Uh, how are you?” The cat meowed in mockery, amused at (Y/n)’s pathetic way of talking to an inanimate object. Toriel, however, seemed happy and somewhat proud, “Ah, very good! You are very good.” Toriel proceeded to the next room, the cat prancing after her. (Y/n) waved to the Dummy-it seemed rude to just walk away from someone-or something- int the middle of a conversation- and followed after.
The next room had a twisting pathway, and Toriel remained silent. She just led the cat and human past it. (Y/n) found this odd, but ignored it. She noticed a sign, but before she could read it, a frog-like creature hopped in front of her. The world faded, and her soul appeared. The frog croaked, staring at her intently. “Um…sup? You look nice today.” At each awkward, embarrassing word, (Y/n) mentally pleaded for Toriel to end the conversation. Of course, the motherly goat-monster did exactly that, and glared at the creature until it left. The world returned to normal, and (Y/n) read the sign. ‘The Western Room is the Eastern Room’s blueprint’ it read. Before the human could question it, Toriel answered her question, “Normally, I would try to let you solve the puzzle, but…puzzles seem too dangerous for now.” Toriel took (Y/n)’s hand and lifted the cat with her free one before taking the two through an area with spiked floor. Once in the next area, Toriel seemed a bit nervous, “You have done excellently thus far, my child. However…I have a difficult request to ask of you…I would like you to walk to the end of the room by yourself.” (Y/n) blinked as Toriel and the cat quickly left her, “Okay…” The human started walking through the long corridor. She looked at the vines on the walls and studied the pathway as she walked until she noticed both the exit and a pillar. Toriel appeared from behind the pillar, the cat beside her, “Greetings, my child. Do not worry, I did not leave you. I was merely behind this pillar the whole time. Thank you for trusting me. However, there was an important reason for the exercise…to test your independence. I must attend to some business, and you must stay alone for a while.” (Y/n) nodded in understanding, “Can I explore while you’re gone?” Toriel shook her head, concern in her eyes, “Please remain here. It’s dangerous to explore by yourself.” (Y/n) sighed; she was hoping to explore, “What do I do, then?” Toriel thought for a moment, “I have an idea. I will give you a cell phone. If you have a need for anything just call. Be good, alright?” (Y/n) smiled warmly, of course, mum.” Toriel froze, sending regret through (Y/n), “Huh? Did you just call me…mom? Well…I suppose…would that make you happy? To call me…’mother?’” (Y/n) nodding, feeling foolish. Toriel smiled her warm, motherly smile once again, “Well then, call me whatever you like! See you when I return, my child!” With that, the kind monster left. (Y/n) sat down, stroking the cat who was still present. “So…what should I call you? How about…hm…Puff? You kinda make me think of a puffy little snowball...no, I think…Poff sounds better. What do you think?” The tiny cat mewed, setting one of its paws on her lap. “Aw…alright, Poff.” (Y/n) stroked the cat, who was now to be called Poff, until her phone went off. Poff jumped back, yowling in surprise. (Y/n) chuckled at the cat as she answered the phone, “Mum?” “My errands are taking longer than I thought. I will need five more minutes. Thank you for being patient.” Before (Y/n) could respond, Toriel hung up. “Okay…five more minutes, Poff.”
After longer of petting and playing around with Poff, the phone rang once again. “Hey, ma. Are you done?” “I have found what I was looking for. But before I could take it…A small, white puppy snatched it away. How odd. Do dogs even LIKE flour? Err, that is an unrelated question, of course. It will take a little longer. Please understand.” Toriel hung up abruptly, earning a soft whine from (Y/n); she was getting bored. Settling on teaching Poff a trick or two, the human decided to start with showing the cat how to solve puzzles-it would be extremely helpful. After another while of waiting, the phone rang out its usual chime. Answering it, (Y/n) waited for her monster-goat-mum to speak. On the other side, heavy panting sounded. Soft barks followed, causing (Y/n) to let out a laugh. Toriel’s voice sounded from the distance, “Stop, please! Come back here with my cellphone!” The phone then hung up. Quickly after, another call sounded. (Y/n) answered, unsure of what she would hear. Soft snores, probably from the dog that was barking, escaped the phone. “Helloooo? Little puppy…? Where are you? I will give you a nice pat on the head!” The snoring stopped abruptly. “If you return my cellphone.” The snoring continued. (Y/n) smiled at Toriel’s words, but gave in to her boredom. No matter how amusing the calls were, (Y/n) felt like it would be an extremely long time before Toriel would return. She signaled to Poff, and left the room. Soon as they left, another call sounded. As she did the past times, (Y/n) answered. “Hello? Hello? This is Toriel. My apologies. A strange dog kidnapped my phone. So if you have called, I could not have helped. However, I have recovered it. And you are still in that room, are you not?” (Y/n) glanced around nervously, “Of course, mum.” “What a good child you are. There are a few puzzles ahead that I have yet to explain. It would be dangerous to try and solve them yourself. Be good, alright?” Toriel ended the call.
(Y/n) sighed in relief; Toriel didn’t catch her lie. She approached a frog-monster who was standing to the side. The monster gave her a book, which said ‘monster encyclopedia’, and locked eyes with her, “Human. I have some advice about fighting monsters. If you act a certain way or fight until you almost defeat them…they may not want to fight anymore. If a monster does not wish to fight you, please…use some mercy, human.” (Y/n) nodded as she opened the book. She found the monster she was talking to. ‘Froggit- Attack 4 defense 5. Life is difficult for this enemy.’ She hummed in curiosity, then entered the closest room. In it, a pedestal sat. On it, there was a bowl of candy and a note. The note said ‘please take one’, so (Y/n) happily obliged. After she tucked the candy in her pocket, she left the room and noticed a yellow star, like the one at the entrance of the Ruins. She touched it again, and Determination filled her being. A smile formed on her face, and she started walking forwards. A Froggit hopped into her vision, staring intently at her. The world faded, leaving (Y/n)’s soul in front of the Froggit. (Y/n) blinked; she didn’t expect the sudden fight. “Uh…you look pretty cool.” The Froggit’s face reddened at her words, and sent a white frog into the area with her soul. Remembering what happened with Flowey, (Y/n) avoided the small version of the Froggit as it hopped. The Froggit looked down, reluctance obvious. “Um, I have to go. See ya…?” The Froggit croaked, happily leaping off, leaving two golden coins behind. (Y/n) picked them up, and the darkness turned into the room. She pocketed the coins, and continued walking. The next room had cracks going down the middle. Cautiously, (Y/n) attempted to cross, but the floor gave way, sending her plummeting downwards while Poff casually leaped over the gap and failed to fall. (Y/n) rubbed her head before she climbed up a convenient staircase, finding herself on the other side of the cracks with Poff. She sent a glare at the smused cat before she continued onwards to the next room. A rock was sitting in the center, a pressure plate-type thing in front of it. A sign on the wall said that three out of four gray rocks recommend you push them. (Y/n) pushed the rock onto the pressure plate, and the spikes in front of it retreated. Almost immediately, her phone rang. “Heyo?” (Y/n) answered it. “For no reason in particular…which do you prefer? Cinnamon or butterscotch?” The human shrugged, though Toriel couldn’t see, “Butterscotch, I guess.” “Thank you for your preference.” Toriel then hung up. As soon as she hung up, Toriel called again, “You do not DISLIKE cinnamon, do you? I know what your preference is, but…would you turn up your nose if you found it on your plate?” (Y/n) smiled at Toriel’s kindness-she was probably cooking something for her. “Of course not! I’ll eat almost anything I’m given, mum!” Toriel laughed quietly, “Right, right, I understand. Thank you for being patient, by the way.”
The call ended, and (Y/n) took another step forwards only to have a Froggit appear and trigger a battle. “Nice to see you. Frogs-err, Froggits- always make my day.” The Froggit blushed as the other one had, and hopped at her again. Dodging the attack, (Y/n) waved, “See ya, I have to go.” The Froggit tossed two pieces of gold to (Y/n) before it left. (Y/n) smiled at that, and put the gold with her other two pieces. The battle ended, and (Y/n) received another call, “Hello? You do not have any allergies, do you?” The human responded swiftly, “No. Why?” “Why am I asking? No reason…no reason at all.” This statement confused the pacifist, but she ignored it and turned her phone of at Toriel’s hang up. The next room was full of cracks. (Y/n) gaped at it, while Poff started strutting onto it. Poff trotted in a specific way, only stepping on certain parts of the ground. Hesitantly, (Y/n) started tracing Poff’s steps, successfully reaching the end and finding a room with a spiked bridge and three gray rocks. Poff started shoving the top one, and (Y/n) pushed the second one with ease before assisting Poff, who couldn’t get the rock to move more than two inches. The third rock complained about having to move, then went to its destination on its own. (Y/n) thanked it, and approached the spike-free bridge, but before she could step on, the spikes reappeared. She spun around to see that the third rock had moved. “Could you stay on until Poff-the cat- and I pass?” The rock moved back in place, and the duo rushed across. Once in the next room, (Y/n) found a piece of cheese and a mouse hole. A yellow star was by it, and, as always, (Y/n) touched it and felt her Determination rise. Poff darted towards to mouse hole, but (Y/n) was quick to pick the cat up and run out of the room to save the mouse.
A ghost was laying in the next room, blocking the passage. It repeatedly saying “Z.” (Y/n) approached nervously, “Uh, can you move?” Instead of the ghost moving, a battle began. Noting the ghost’s teary eyes, (Y/n) spoke kindly, hoping a compliment would help like when she battled the Froggits, “You’re a…very cute ghost.” The ghost’s face turned slightly pink-how that was possible (Y/n) wouldn’t question, as that was the least peculiar thing she’s seen, “o-oh…i’m napstablook………………i…i’d just weigh you down…” (Y/n) found herself feeling bad for the ghost, who she would consider a ‘he’ for until she might be proven wrong. “Don’t worry, Napstablook. Anyway, uh…” (Y/n) paused for a moment before settling on making a bad ghost pun, “how could you weigh me down? I’m solid weight, and you’re weightless!” Luckily, Napstablook chuckles slightly at the awful joke, “let me try…” Tears poured from Napstablook’s eyes, but rather than going for her soul, they went upwards, forming a hat, “what do you think…? I call it ‘dapper blook’…” (Y/n) smiled widely, “You look great!” Napstablook’s face turned even pinker, and the battle ended. “normally I go to the Ruins because nobody’s here…but today I met somebody nice……oh, I’m rambling again……i’ll get out of your way.” Napstablook faded away much to (Y/n)’s disappointment and Poff’s confusion, making the path passable. (Y/n) walked straight forwards, and found herself in a room with two spider webs and a sign. “A spider bakesale? Weird….but we don’t have enough money. Huh?” (Y/n) approached the small web. A donut was laying in it, a small note saying ‘sample’ next to it. Spiders were sitting around it, looking up at (Y/n). Hesitantly, she took the donut, and thanked the spiders while preventing Poff from attacking them. The pair left and went through the other door that was in the room they found Napstablook in. Two Froggits were sitting together. (Y/n) waved to the first one, who spoke casually, “Do you know what f4 stands for? Four frogs, maybe? But I have only seen a maximum of three frogs in this room…this is very troubling, to say the least.” (Y/n) smiled before she noticed a sign that she had missed. It was an advertisement for the spider bake sale. Choosing to ignore it and go to the next frog, the human waited for it to speak. “I heard you are quite merciful, for a human…Surely you know that when a monster glows yellow you can spare it. What do you think of that?” (Y/n) patted Poff’s head, “Pretty helpful, thanks.” The Froggit nodded, “It is rather helpful. Remember, sparing is just saying that you won’t fight. Maybe one day, you’ll even have to do it if they aren’t yellow.” (Y/n) thought of how to respond when a soft croak got her attention. Poff ran to it, batting at the source of noise. Upon closer inspection, (Y/n) noticed a tiny Froggit sitting in a crack. The Froggit waved as (Y/n) tugged Poff away and left the room.
A sign immediately caught (Y/n)’s attention. “Only one switch, huh? Assuming that involves the cracks…what if one of them means a fall to instant death…? Or, worse, ALL of the wrong ones mean death…
