Description Okay, so asked me how I made the pleats for my Sumire costume and its pretty hard to explain, so I thought I would show her with pictures. These were drawn up really fast, thats why they are so ugly.

Step 1: Cut out 4 rectangles to make up the front back and sides. You should size them based on your own hip and waist measurements. Make sure that they are big enough to fit over your hips with seam allowance. Once you sew it together you can sew darts in the top of the skirt to match your shape so that the skirt wont fall off. I'm only showing two rectangles here because that is how many you use to make one pleat. My skirt had four pleats, so you would do this with every seam between the 4 pieces. Cut 4 smaller triangles for the underpleats. They should be about half the length of the skirt or the other rectangle pieces.

Step 2: Sew the two rectangle pieces together to the mid-line, or where you want the pleat to begin. Make sure to backtack here because it might be under a lot of stress.

Step 3: Sew one of the long sides of the triangle to one of the rectangles. The seam should meet up with the previous seam with the other rectangle piece.

Step 4: Sew the other long side of the triangle to the other rectangle piece, up to the same place. You might have trouble here sewing all the way up to the top of the triangle. When I did it I had a bit of extra fabric at the top so that there was room to sew both sides to the triangle part of the pleat.

Finish: After you have sewn the pieces together, then you can hem the bottom of the skirt all in one. I had to iron it so that most of the red covered up the pink.

If this is still confusing, feel free to ask me questions.
