Description
Rebecca was always more shy than adventurous, but when her high-school crush asked her on a date, she jumped at the chance. She spent the week prior planning what she'd wear, how she would do her hair, what shampoo she would use... It was going to be perfect. The night of the data, she put her hair in a braid and whistled happily as the hour ticked nearer. She put on a blouse that had rich colors and was covered in flowers. As she reached for the buttons down the front to clasp them, her cellphone rang. It was her crushes cell.
"Hello?" she asked shyly, but with a smile.
"Rebecca?" a woman's voice came over, older but not grandmotherly.
Her smile fell slightly, "This is she."
"This is *name*'s mom." the woman said, sounding very upset "There was an accident. *name* was hurt. Badly." the woman choked on tears
"*gender*s in a coma.". The line went dead.
The cellphone fell lazily from Rebecca's hand and she leaned then slid, almost in disbelief, halfway down her stark bedroom wall...

This took WAY to long to get done. But the final picture in this set was mindbogglingly hard for me to put to action. I tried several methods to capture "Blue", and eventually decided to try and capture the EMOTION of "Blue". Emotion, I think, has got to be the hardest thing to capture with art. I mean, sure, I could have had her crying, tears running down her cheeks, screaming in sadness...But that would have been too obvious. That's what happens when it's "set it". What about in that moment where you just feel it. The handful of seconds where the reaction you're going to have is unclear. That's what I wanted to capture, and I'm fairly happy with it. I wish I had better lens and aperture control, but only so much I could do about that with a "cheap" point-n-shoot. Anyways, I can now finish my four-piece set of Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue.
Modeling credit goes to my best friend Meadow who is an absolute joy to work with and who you will be seeing a lot more of as we both hone our skill and build our respective portfolios.
