The game allows you to create your own 2D courses as well as viewing and playing other creators' courses. The 4 styles you can create your course are from four previous titles, which are Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U. And while there are enemies you can put on your course, you can use shells, cannons and other things as items that Mario can wear.

Oh, and if you use the Mystery Mushroom, Mario will transform into Costume Mario, where he will take the form of many Nintendo characters, as well as third-party characters. These include Luigi, Bowser, a Goomba, Link from The Legend of Zelda, Samus from Metroid, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, etc. But also, costumes from fourth-party characters, like Hello Kitty, Shaun the Sheep and even BABYMETAL.
