This is how Celestians use Various Elements, it's how they used their base power to either collect or accumulate the power either externally or internally using their Power based on principle esoteric abilities.

it takes over three years of training to use this method and can become any form of power as long they have either knowledge and the understanding of how the Element is supposed to be used.

Thunder is a Charge Beam type of power so it won't be very useful for speedy tactics but it has a devastating impact when it hits, it can smash through walls without issues and can potentially Penetrate Tanks.

Lightning is a Rapid Beam type of power it may not hit as hard but it's fiercely fast and easy to dodge attacks when combined with physical movements. However it can Make it easy to snipe enemies from long distances even perform chain lightning to hit multiple targets if experienced enough.

it is possible to switch between them but depends on it's user skill with the elements, the stronger the easier to flip in between them and eventually they can use the forces to even make dazzling combos.

like a guy wearing a red coat a sword and a pair of guns, Hiro is Capable of doing various skills and maybe combine them with ones he learned in between his adventures but it's a good idea not to overdo it.

Energy is a value that is worth more than cheap tactics, because if he wants to use that element it may cost a portion to use his Ki Energy and may be more of a risk to use an Element that he is just beginning to learn so he may hold off until he figures out how to properly allocate the power until then.
