"Nice catch!" The ginger warrior called to Willowpool, who had just lept on a mouse and killed it. She mewed back in thanks and bent to pick it up, as Shimmerpelt chased after a rabbit through the dense undergrowth. Sorrelfox watched quietly as Twigtail moved farther along a branch to pounce on a robin below, which was pecking at the ground for bugs.

His attention was cut short as a small voice whispered, "Wow, what is that?" Spicepaw stood awed in front of a glowing blue mushroom.

Turning around, he smiled at the young cat's curiosity. He had almost forgotten that this was Spicepaw's first time out of camp, and the young tom was eager to learn how to hunt with the three warriors. But for now, the light of the fungus was what had captured his attention.

"It's a mushroom," Sorrelfox explained to his apprentice, "But these ones are special. They help the Medicine Cats talk to StarClan. They are very delicate, so don't touch them. But you can look all you want."

Spicepaw smiled, the glow from the mushroom illuminating his face in the dark forest, "It's beautiful."

"They sure are," the older tom agreed, "sometimes I wonder what it's like inside the Moon Tree, but we aren't really allowed in. I bet you can ask Breezepaw sometime, though." He knew Spicepaw considered the medicine cat to be his brother, so when the suggestion was made, Spicepaw's face beamed.

"I will!" he said excitedly.

Sorrelfox purred in amusement. "Alright! But, first, let's teach you some more hunting techniques. Show me your crouch again, like I showed you earlier."
