SOU 3103 (EMD SD45) was built in March of 1970 for The Southern Railway at La Grange, Illinois at the Electro-Motive Division Plant numbered as SOU 3103 being the 3rd out of 68 SD45s delivered to the Southern Railway being assigned to Southern's CNO&TP Mainline. SOU 3103 would see service in North Carolina (1971-1972, 1985-1986), Kentucky (1973-1984), and Indiana (1986) serving on successor Norfolk Southern between 1982-1987 when it was retired along with all 67 other SD45s around serving on Norfolk Southern. SOU 3103 thankfully would be purchased by The Cranesville Central Railroad keeping it's Southern Railway number and appearance running Coal Trains between the NS interchange at Cranesville to the mines at Johnsburg where it would be loaded bringing the loads back to the NS interchange were they would be taken to their destinations by NS with it still running today along with sister units 3160 and 3168.
