Description Lately I've been really cranking hard on a sculpture commission, and while most of it is still in various states of "what the fuck is that supposed to be?"-ness, this human skull portion of it is totally finished so I thought I'd share it.

The pictures really don't do it much justice because I really busted my ass to try and add as much detail as I could, but still leave the thing in a state where it could be easily molded and cast in resin. It was a quite interesting process of editing and reworking the anatomy to make it still look accurate, but at the same time eliminate all of the undercuts and openings that would make casting it a total bitch. Also this was really my first try at working in 1/8th scale (I'm used to 1/6th) and I was rather surprised that it wasn't too much of an ordeal to make the transition to the smaller size, and I really didn't have to sacrifice any detail. Hell I even got the cranial sutures in there!

I’ll share more of the full sculpture, which this skull is just a small part of, as the entire piece gets closer to being done… which should be quite soon.

Thanks for looking guys!

Thanks Creepy! I'd love to see some sculpture work from you if you have any you'd like to share. I'm sure it fucking rocks just like your drawings and paintings!

Thank you! A lot of the current comic book themed sculptures are done in 1/8th scale, so I figured that I needed to get my feet wet in that pool as well. I'm spreading like a virus, and soon no art genre will be safe from me!!!

Well it's not easy I can tell you that! It would be a lot easier if I knew anything about working with wax (it's much easier to do small detail work in wax), but I don't, so it ain't.

This is just a really small piece of a much larger sculpture that I can't fucking wait to finish so I don't have to fucking look at it anymore!!! It' turning out well, but I'm just hitting that point of burnout/fatigue with it.

I think the guy I'm doing it for might actually release the entire piece as a garage kit so maybe you actually can own one later down the road. I'll keep you posted.

Skull-tastic!
Ahem, anywho...The details are nice, I can see some of the cracks in the skull (those are the sutures you spoke of, right?) and it looks very realistic for such a tiny little skull. great job.

Ha ha! I've just come back from New York and whilst I was there, I had the good fortune to go and see 'Evil Dead - The Musical!' It's hilarious and I highly recommend it.....but at one point, one of the 'zombies' has her head scalped to reveal the brain below! Blood spurts everywhere!(That's why the first 4 rows of seats get plastic macs to wear!

About 2 days or so. I hard baked it a few times in between so there was plenty of downtime waiting for the thing to cool in the oven.
