I love your work. The looseness, the layers of saturation and light. It's just lovely. Big fan.

So this is what you meant when I said that you only got hired for three of the five lands. Sneaky little artist aren't you.

Absolutely love the lighting, but it find it bothersome that the pillars are o sharp and clean, yet the brick and crack lines are messy.

if there's any chance you'll do a tutorial video specifically surrounding your thought process for painting different lighting then there's a chance i'll buy it. else that i don't suppose you'd have any succinct little words-of-wisdom on the subject for me?

hehe.. you know, I find it very funny how publishers in the US try to come up with "exotic" names for various products or characters in fantasy genre... they basically find a random word from, what they believe to be an exotic language of a totally unheard of or unknown country, and stick it on the box of their product or a birth certificate of their character..
"Ravnica" means plain in Croatian, and I can't even begin to count the number of songs in Croatia which sing of "returning to the plain" haha
cool painting tho! cheers!

Wizards usually is very specific in the choices of names for their cards. I still to this day find meanings for words used on cards i have been playing for years that just click. its probably an ironic twist on it. and keep in mind that while it may mean plain in Croatian, it may actually be a word in another language that means something totally different as well.

I love the perspective on this! and the red apples really are a sweet touch
May I ask Noah, to work for magic the gathering - did you apply with just environment paintings? Or things like creatures and props and such? I'd love to get into this stuff but not sure what kind of portfolio to create!

Thanks man.
I only had environments. Best to do and show the sort of stuff you really want to do. There is, admittedly, probably more cards that feature characters/creatures, but unless you love doing those, don't pursue them.

Noah, I have some additional questions: I always wondered how tight or loose the descriptions for such a painting commision are? And how about the deadlines regarding MTG works?
Amazing atmosphere by the way!!

Hey thanks for the reply. Ah it's good to hear they hire people on purely environmental stuff; I do prefer it, all the character stuff seems a bit violent etc for my tastes but I love these fantasy landscapes and such. thx again mate keep inspiring!
