tho I think Max and Noriel are my favorite part of this entire thing and they arent even the focus haha

Kana Blanco

her mood changed back to serious again. But this is the best chance I have to ask this. Kana clenched her teeth tight, forcing herself to speak “I know I keep pestering you about it. But why do you have to do all of this.” Ash wasn’t looking at her, but she narrowed her eyes in response “If you would just trust others more, maybe we could find a way to help you. If you would just… let us-”

Ash exhales an irritated growl “This is what I don’t understand about you. You believe you can just Solve Everything by being nice. You think you understand what we are going through but you don’t.” Ash snarled under her breath, her hands curling into fists “People don’t listen to you when you are nice, people use you and tear you down when you are nice. And my people, my friends, they-”
Ash looks down at Max, who is thrilled to be showing Noriel how the tip of the hook works and sticks to the trees. The corner of Ash’s lips twitched as if she was trying to hold something back “they have already been hurt enough.” Ash rested her head down on her hands and let her eyelids rest.

Kana inched closer to her “That’s completely fair. I might not have the full context of everything, I get that… But- but if you are ok with me sharing my opinion-” Ash motioned with her hands for Kana to continue “if you keep treating everyone like your enemy and pushing them away, they will start doing the same to you. And one day you might end up all alone when you need help the most”
Ash turns to look at her, and Kana feels her heart getting heavier at the sight of Ash’s tired, defeated eyes “tell me, Kana. Do you really think the town would have willingly given me (ajh tsj fjvd avm hsmcyem smdjdjsr) I needed to help my people if I asked nicely?”

She was right…

Kana’s eyes drop, rubbing her fingers together. But with gleeful courage, she straightens back up
“I would have”

Ash blinked at Kana’s response, a slight bit of hope shone in her eyes before she turned her gaze away “whatever you say, pretty eyes” Ash whispered.

They both stare at their friends interacting below the trees. Apparently Noriel had gotten herself stuck on a tree while they weren’t paying attention “It’s fine, just let go! I will catch you!” Max reassured her. Listening to them, Noriel let go, falling right onto Max’s arms but causing them to lose balance and stumble backwards to the ground.
“I’m good, I’m good!” they exclaimed in a daze, in an attempt to calm down the two (kfhe) crowding around them.
Max was nothing like Kana had originally imagined. They had barely even spoken before and now the two of them could bounce off of each other’s random conversations for hours. It was a pleasant surprise.

Speaking of, she had gotten to see Ash in a different light lately too. They were always in a battle and going at each other’s throats, but now here she was sitting right next to Ash and sharing a moment with her in complete silence. Ash turned out to be someone with a lot of passion and care for those around her. She was very talkative and funny; and her nose wrinkled whenever she laughed. The thorn tattoos on her right arm were actually all linked to a rose on her shoulder. Her red curly hair looked so vibrant and soft to the touch too, it was beautiful.
Kana peeks from behind her hair to look at Ash again and is met with a similar wandering gaze.
Ash’s eyes shake back to reality and Kana flinches, staring directly into each other’s eyes.

“Umm” Kana can feel her face turning red.

When the realisation hit, Ash’s face gained a faint tint too as her muscles tensed up.
She shot up from the branch “I CAN’T BE NEAR YOU RIGHT NOW”. She launched the hooks from her gear into the tree and hopped down in a hurry, stres all over her tone of voice “BYE” she shouted from below.
Kana looked down at the shackles around her wrists, and then frantically looked around. How am I supposed to climb down from here?

“Hey uuuh. I can’t get down! You know the whole prisoner thing.” she shouted to Ash, shaking the shackles around to make some noise.

She heard the sound of rustling leaves and branches alongside distant mumbling getting louder and louder.
Ash got back into the branch “you are just so- so irritating, so insufferable. I can’t stand you” she kept muttering to herself as she lifted Kana into her arms, bridal style and began carrying her down the tree.
Kana threw her arms over her head dramatically “oh to be picked up by such, stroooong arms~” she wailed sarcastically.

“Please, shut up.”

Kana stuck her tongue out with a wink, making Ash roll her eyes and twist her lips to contain a smile. Unlike her attitude when Kana came up the tree, Ash’s mannerisms were quite different now. She placed Kana back down into the grass, letting her touch the ground with the tip of her shoe and place one foot after the other to regain her balance. Ash retrieved back the hook from the tree while Kana brushed the dust off herself, trying to contain a chuckle.
Noriel noticed Kana standing under the shade and waved in her direction for her to come over. Kana waved back, now overflowing with joy and began to walk towards her.
Ash stopped herself from taking the first step. Before giving herself a small burst of speed to match Kana's pace.

Kana kept wanting to glance back at Ash, but hesitated unsure. Feeling Ash's eyes watching her nervously fidget. Then she heard Ash quip, and a smile flowed along her cheeks;

“So you called Max ‘dearie’? What are you, eighty?”

Kana bumped Ash’s shoulder against hers. The two of them finally let out their laughs as they walked together to join their friends, a new feeling of content enjoyed between them.
