Anthropomorphic tarmas are essentially harpies--when early romans saw these creatures, they were regarded as mythical figures.

In truth, tarmas are highly intelligent creatures that, in times when humanity was more attuned to magicks, assumed forms that mimicked those of the humans they admired. Many practiced medicine and alchemy, while others apprenticed under scribes and witches in secret societies.

The social trend of fitting into human society continues in modern times, and most tarmas manifest as animals. As shapeshifters, their abilities are limited in that they retain many of their avian features, but they are nonetheless impressive.
