Rhinoptera bonasus is a familiar site in aquarium touch tanks. Many people mistake the flaps on the underside of its head for the mouth, but they're actually highly-modified extensions of the wing-like pectoral fins. The rays use these extensions to probe the sandy seafloor for the clams and other bottom-dwelling invertebrates upon which they feed.
