Description
ABC losing its license in 1982 was unexpected, to say the least. While yes, their commitment to local programming and their standards had dropped quite a bit since their peak in 1975, they were still very much a famous name. That made their replacement all the more surprising. Formed of a consortium including former failed Yorkshire bidder Telefusion and some television heavyweights, Telefusion London promised a closer commitment to the London region "as the heart of the UK and the world as a whole". It's unclear what they meant by this, but their application was clearly enough to sweep ABC out of London forever. This card faded in on the 1st of January, 1982. It was the first appearance of their soon iconic laurel wreath logo, which could exude both opulence and populism depending on its use.
