It means the allegiance assigned to them at birth, which isn't necessarily the allegiance they have now. I.e. they could be born into a specific clan/group, but grow up and leave it

It means like. Good and Evil teams.
Like if you were making a Zelda character: (If you know what Zelda is good, if not well...)
Say your characters was a knight for the castle. Your birth allegiance would most likely be "To the Kingdom of Hyrule"
But then say one day, the characters is tempted by evil forces to join them for power. Then the current or part allegiance would be "To the Dark Lord Ganon" or something of the sort.
