Description Vampire Knight Artemis Scythe WIP: Part 1!

PLEASE VIEW FULL SIZE FOR BETTER VIEW & UNDERSTANDING!

Hello there! Afiqah here~

I'm going to start posting my very FIRST WIP (Work in Progress) Photos! Kyaaa~ So excited! *_*

Okay! Firstly, If you've stumbled upon to this photo. I also want to let you know that this is my 1st time EVER making a Cosplay prop all by myself. Pheww~ Solo Harrrrdd work x_x Plus i'm not a Pro!! Don't expect so much "Pro-ness" from me! :')

This might turn out into a tutorial on how I make Yuuki Cross's Artemis Scythe because I'm still currently not done with the prop yet! Just finished the base! So far, I'm quite proud of my Cosplay prop since it's my first try! Kyaaaaa!!

PLEASE NOTE!: That this is how I make my Cosplay prop & I just really want to share it here as a memory thing & it could be a help to others if they plan on following this idea/method of mine on making Yuuki Cross's Artemis Scythe!

Alrighty! On with my WIP info! ~

First, I wanted to go inexpensive & get the things I needed that were reasonable to me & my wallet budget! XD

Things you'll probably need/What I used for this stage!

Wooden Dowel : 6.ft/72 inches+/ 180cm +
Sticky tacks: 2 packets (Should be enough!)
Reference photos
Pencil & Measuring tape

Getting the wooden dowel was a real miracle for me because since I'm from Malaysia... You can't really find wooden dowels (as tall as 6ft!!) easily unless you know a friend/uncle/magic fairy that is a wood carpenter . I was able to find mine at a huge factory outlet kind of store. The place usually sold household goods like Mops,Containers,Plastic baskets etc etc... All the stuff you normally need in your house hold! The wooden dowel I got is actually a rod meant to be a tool to reach for things that are stored up in high places.

Wooden Dowel cost me Rm8 = $3

Why I used sticky tacks?? Well, Because it was actually easy to work with! I actually tried using craft foam but it didn't work out for me because I kept getting the design patterns for Yuuki's Scythe all wrong! Sticky tack was easy to use because I estimated the measurements for it on the wooden dowel & it came to a perfect fit! Yuuki's scythe has these little bump design on the rod of her artemis scythe. The sticky tack did a great job as you can see in the photo!

Sticky tack: Rm18

Okay on with the steps!

Probably you all would know how Yuuki's Artemis Scythe looks like right? If you don't then just google it. There are hundreds of reference photos you can work with! In here I was trying to recreate Yuuki's Scythe from the manga. It's the B&W reference photo!

STEP 1. MEASURING! IT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to do first! I measure my Wooden dowel, (Let's call it rod now). So on my rod. It was a total of 6ft.2 inches/74 inches/182 cm. I started at the bottom of the rod dividing the measurements into equal spaces for me to add Yuuki's "Bump designs" on her rod. So first! With a pencil, I measured 15cm (I think) to mark on the rod for spaces to the bump designs. As you can see in my photo. I worked my way up to make the bump designs so that they had an equal look.

STEP 2. Always have a reference photo by your side, So you can get a rough idea on how you can make your Cosplay Prop & as your working with building your prop!

STEP 3. Sticky tacks!! After I measured the rod & added the space marking to it. I used the sticky tacks to estimate the bumpy design for Yuuki's Scythe. When you normally open your packet of sticky tack (Best if you can get the white colored ones) They already come in like a nice form for me. I just estimated how "large" the bump design would be and just rolled/patted it on to the rod! & if you don't like your outcome for your first try! You can always take off the sticky tack real easily! :3

I was happy on how it turned out! So the base design was all set!

Usually, As much as I wanted to make an exact replica of Yuuki's weapon. hahaha. Not that easy when you're doing it alone. XD but as a newbie to the cosplay prop making world! I had my own ways/ideas on making my prop. It may look wacky. but just stay tuned for my 2nd/3rd WIP! I'll post links when I upload them soon! Stay tuned!
