Description
Just simple headshots of Nuka. A character that I realized I've never really drawn before. Which is odd to me..I've made this design and color study for two reasons:
1. I'm planning a needle felting sculpture of him. Yep, though I'm NOT giving him a full body, just a head bust. Felting/sculpting bodies is a pain in the ass! The face is where all the fun and personality lies anyway. I chose Nuka for this...because he's a mess. He's a messy character, which gives me room for error, because he himself is an embodiment of imperfections. So, although he looks complicated; he should be quite flexible to work with when recreating his form and expressions. I'm quite excited for this project, but it will take several months. I'm still currently working on an infant Simba felting project, which is going REALLY well! So, I have to try and not get ahead of myself.
2. I like his design, and to some extent; the character himself.
Nuka was a character that could have been a ton more interesting; if the film actually took some time to develop him and his backstory/motivations etc. again going back to my disdain for Simba's Pride's poor writing (in my opinion). I found him more interesting than Kiara and Kovu though...so, I guess it goes to show that a character can be interesting without a lot of time dedicated to them. I do find it a shame that the two most interesting characters in SP had to die near the end. And how their extended death scenes were cut short, erasing all depth in their own demise. Refer to the last two deleted scenes in this compilation to see what I'm talking about:Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=cctODMβ¦
His voice actor gave a good performance too, though I really don't like Andy Dick as a person...he scares me. (don't read further if you don't want to read about his voice actor). Andy Dick is very talented but...is also a perverted, socially inept, inappropriate, manipulative, ungrateful, drug abusing, sexual deviant that has been arrested multiple times for various crimes (mostly drug possession and indecent exposure), kicked off multiple talk shows for groping their female guests, among many other horrible indiscretions. He's even thought to be somewhat responsible for the shooting death of Phil Hartman (you may remember him as the voice of Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz on The Simpsons, yes; delivery intended) Dick reintroduced cocaine to Phil's former drug addicted wife, which caused her to have the mental breakdown which lead to her shooting her husband and then killing herself. When a friend of Hartman's Jon Lovitz confronted him about it, Andy was later quoted saying to him: "I put the Phil Hartman hex on you. You're next to die." So ironic how Andy Dick is, well...a dick.
I'm honestly surprised that Disney Junior let Andy reprise his role despite these controversies, all the while Jason Biggs was kicked off Nickelodeon's TMNT series for far less than that! But that's off topic. I guess it fits that Nuka; being a mentally unstable sociopath, was to be voiced by one himself...so I guess it works to that extent. Sorry for this tangent, I just thought it was interesting knowing an individual this screwed up; is voicing a Disney character of all things. A villain though, granted.

You draw him amazingly. Can't wait to see how will the sculpture turn out. 8DΒ
Also what you just said about Nuka and even his voice actor just spawned more Evil!Nuka headcanons in my mind... Usually I write Nuka to eventually become a good guy, to even be somewhat innocent and sweet as long as he can get over his "getting noticed by Zira" syndrome, but now I kinda also love the idea of Nuka surviving and coming back as a villain. Not a smooth aristocratic villain like Scar, but more of a cowardly, lowly kind of one... Who's maybe more confident in himself than he used to be ("Is it hot here or is that just me?") because that'll make him more of a potentail main villain for some fan fiction stuff of mine...

Nuka kinda seemed like a comic relief to me at first. Especially the amount of times he cowered out in that fire scene. Still he did a better job at it then Timon and Pumbaa did in Simba's Pride (I like the characters but they're comedic antics proved to be obtrusive and annoying in that movie). I also find it weird how he still had his mangy body at an older age only with an added mane whereas Kovu and Vitani grew into fully healthy adults. I always liked Vitani more myself really but Nuka was a good character himself.

I've always felt kinda bad for Nuka. All he ever wanted was to prove himself to his mother, even if that meant dying in the process.

Yeah, but at the same time; (just like his mother obviously) he was an irredeemable sociopath..

I like the bottom colours more... and it's a sham,e the writing kinda fell flat in Simba's Pride; I still enjoy it but, it's hard not to notice the lines or scenes where they cut something or had something in mind
His face does look like it'd be fun
and yes I know all about Andy Dick... loved the character he played on NewsRadio... don't really like the person >.>

Yes, I agree that the bottom colors look more vibrant and appealing, but I have a soft spot for his grey-ish colors too. I guess it'll come down to which colors I have to use for him, most likely the grey-ish one though; greys are more abundant in felting wool colors.
Yeah, I used to like Andy's character in an old show called 'Less Than Perfect' that I used to watch religiously after school, had no idea who that guy was, or that he even voiced Nuka. Again, talented actor...fucked up individual. I guess he also relates to Nuka in that he had a REALLY shitty childhood too (apparently). It would explain (but not excuse) his horrid behavior.Β
Thanks for the comment as always, Meg!
