reminds me of an animal from David Edding's the belgeriad serie. In it horselike animals called Hrulgin's, feature. Thay have fangs and claws but for the rest look like horses so much that one of the main character the Horse-Lord Hettar tries to tame one. Unfortunate they are not only carnivors, they a mad too. And he has to kill it.
these creatures look far from crazy.
