Description

It was simple work for her to cut down the corrupt beast whose form writhed along the surface of this planet, freeing those who had suffered under its reign. It was barely sentient anyway, she mused, and to survive under it you had to be a hardy creature. They would be fine. Turning away, she headed towards the endless sea.

---

The first loud boom echoed across the entire earth, and it seemed to silence everything in the land. The next boom echoed soon after. Then the next. Then the next. Soon the sound of the booms was overwhelming, the cacophony so loud it pierced through the highest screaming winds and deepest bubbling waters alike. No one knew what was happening. Some believed their saviour had turned on them, others believed it to be the end of the world. The answer was far more astonishing.

The place where the booms originated was in an area of the endless sea. Or, more appropriately, what used to be the endless sea. Where once was only calm ocean now was cut through by the creation of a new continent entirely. Young volcanoes turned the earth inside out as molten fire spilled from their mouths, creating new land incredibly fast and bringing the rolling seas of fire from within the earth's mantle to the light of day. Creatures of fire, once only living below the earth's crust, were now free, basking in newly formed lava lakes and stepping on the turmolous earth, excited to explore this land created by their 'goddess', for lack of a better word.

(To the creatures of flame they see her as a goddess. They called out mother to her in millions of different languages, for it is only under her flame that all life can exist and live and thrive, and within her domain does unique and unfathomable terrains show themselves, bolstered by her heat. It is her flames that hold the secret to immortality, for she is all that things need to survive, but also all that which would cause untold damage and harm. Never before has a people been so devoted before or since.)

1. The Falling Sea

Here, situated on the edge of Aurona's domain, is a waterfall larger than any in the entire world. Long ago, during Aurona's rampage, she ripped her continent from the other that it had connected with, effectively sating her anger and entering a time of deep mourning after those who feared her people attempted to destroy them. Many thousands of years later, this giant gap is what remains, a warning to those who would dare enrage the Mother of Monsters. This chasam reaches deep into the earth, the ocean forever falling to the earth's mantle and producing a giant cloud of smoke and smog.

2. The Eternal Mist

The mist caused by the Falling Sea rises up and forms the Eternal mist, a giant cloud of smoke and mist that shrouds a giant portion of the land in eternal darkness. Here the smog is so thick little to no light can peek through. The creatures that live here either live on the ashen ground or live on floating islands of rock, held aloft by eldritch magic and housing many creatures who thrive within the dark. This thick mist is also guarded by the serpentem in caligine (serpent in the mist) Teniguris, Aurona's first child.

3. Emberflow Hollow

Carved from a giant dead stratovolcano, small rivers of lava are all that remain of the once mighty force of nature. Here the houses are packed close together and are lit only by the soft glowing of embers. Situated on the edge of the Eternal Mist, the city is shrouded in an eternal shade. To an outsider, the city would seem abandoned, until one noticed the faint silhouettes of creatures shifting through the shade...

4. Magmaglow Merge

Situated outside of the Emberflow Hollow, the Magmaglow Merge is one of the lowest places in the land, and because of this it's where much of the lava flows back into the earth. Generally the area here is calm, and is a good place for those who want to set up trades with the Magmaglow Merge but don't want to enter the dark city.

5. The Carving Spines

With the Magmaglow Merge nestled in the most protected places from the elements, the Carving Spines is a massive mountain range that seems to pierce the sky itself. It's dark silhouette can be seen from everywhere across the land, and shields the north-east of Mother Flame's land from any weather that could have come in from the ocean.

6. The Lands Scar

Half of the land of flame is sunken into the earth and much lower than the rest of it. While it has rounded over with time, the Lands Scar is still daunting to those not born of fire, and even to those who are it still proves to be a challenge. There are specific paths traveled commonly to get through the massive cliff face.

7. The Flamesurge

The second largest active volcano in the land, the Flamesurge is surprisingly calm for a volcano, only ever spewing ash, with lava flowing steady from its mouth and never overflowing too much. It is because of this surprising calmness that creatures flock to its base and taking advantage of the fertile land.

8. The Forest of Falling Mist

The largest forest in the fire land, the Forest of Falling Mist is forever shouded by falling smoke produced by the trees that grow there. The trees make it and it flows down their dark forms. Traveling through the forest is almost as if wandering through a dream, only half awake. Each tree bears a small gem which helps keep the tree alive, a product from growing in land not only extremely fertile, but also very magically charged. In the center of the deep forest is a massive 'tree', as old as the forest itself. It is also within this forest that the pungens grumus respective anguis (the choking smog snake) Vourison, Aurona's second child, rests. The ones living within the forest interact with him often, and respect him, following his leadership. The great tree in the center is protected fiercely by those living within the forest, and it was the attempts of outsiders of the fire land to destroy it that spurred on Aurona's rampage.

The trees within the forest are always bare, except for one week during the summer solstace where they bloom beautiful leaves and flowes the colours of flames. To see it as an outsider, you would think the whole forest had been set ablaze.

9. Nigrum Civitatem (the city with black walls/the black city)

The capital of the entire land of flame, Nigrum Civitatem, also known as the city with black walls, is old and beautiful. Built from dark metal and lit by warm flames, this city is the oldest in all the realm, and is very close knit, like most others born in flame. The architecture is reminiscent of the gothic style, with arching doorways and open homes. Here, instead of trading any sort of currency, they trade goods. Not only is the capital a beautiful city to walk through, it is known for its barter and trade with others. The central 'palace', the largest building in the city, is not for royalty. It is a massive, open space where many come to meet for various reasons. Though primarily used for trade, it is also used to host massive parties where all can enter and join in on the festivities.

10. The Ignes Gratia

The eldest, largest monument in the land, the Ignes Gratia is the blood and heartbeat of the land. From its mouth magma infused with elemental energy flows out and rejuvenates the land. It is also where Aurona spends most of her time, along with her heralds, monitoring the land and making sure all is calm. From this volcano much of the ash rains down, creating fertile land for all to utilize.

It is also here where her high priestess rest with her, her sirens born of fire and flame. Their songs sweep across the land and, very rarely, you can hear the Mother of Monsters join in with them.

11. The Burning Wasteland

A dry desert that spans across much of the north of the realm. Shielded by the Carving Spines, the parched land is only broken by the giant calderas that dot this area. The ones who live here are hardy and resilient, surviving off the few creatures that also call the wasteland home.

12. The Bridge

Built quite recently, the largest bridge in the world connects the land of fire to the rest of the continents. This is one of the very few ways creatures outside can enter the land of fire, and it is heavily charmed so only those who have express permission can pass over it. It's connected to their closest allies, the indigenouse people of the lands across it having never turned their back on the creatures of fire. It is only these peoples who are allowed to cross freely over, and for their kindness they are granted protection from the people of flame. When the bridge was first made, many countries/kingdoms attempted to steal the land from the indigenosue peoples in an attempt to gain access to the fire lands. For their efforts, they burned within Aurona's flames.

13. The Endless Sea

The oceans around the land of flame are littered with both fire and water creatures, and they get along surprisingly well. Strong ties with the people of water have long been established between the two elements. It is with this alliance that some of Aurona's sirens perch themselves along the shores of more vulnerable areas of both fire and water, singing their songs as a warning to other creatures and, when that doesn't work, sending the aggressors to the depths of the ocean. Creatures of both elements also rest near volcanic vents near the fire lands, and it is here where luayathan (the leviathan) Voxgatum, Aurona's third child and voice of ambassadors for both fire and water. It is due to his aid that relations are as good as they are.

- The fire creates its own weather. The fire creates its own land. The fire creates its own will. The fire doesn’t care what you want. x

So, this is a project I've had for a while, inspired by flight risings world map. I really like what they have, however I wanted to try my hand at making my own relam of fire inspired by it. I had a lot of different ideas and, while I did take inspiration of some designes and on how to draw a map, I hope that it's distinct enough from it. I wanted to make a giant, massive continent, and I wanted to talk about the land in detail that gives one a good overview of the land overall.

Anyway, this is the first major part of my Mother of Monsters project! I hope you like it!
