Description
updated wingy-nova ...honestly, i don't think of myself as winged, but people seem to really like them, and they ARE more fun to draw.
Nova is an arctic wolf with red tailed hawk wings/feathers and lynx-like tufts on the tops of her ears.
When i first decided to give her wings, they were RED.. like a typical red tail. Later i switched to white to match better, but said they were snowy owl instead. recently i discovered there's such a thing as a WHITE red tailed hawk (squee!) [link]
it's not an albino, which is a complete lack of pigment (and has pink eyes), but a leucistic, which means just a low amount of pigment.
anyways i was happy to discover this, which meant nova could return to her roots while still keeping the monochromatic color scheme
The little doodle in the background is some old (and i must emphasize - old - because she doesn't know i'm putting it in here and will bite my butt for showing it off, hehe) art from of nova and chad, the balloon.*
The three blue/purple jewels in nova's ear are the same ones has in her forehead...they are sisters.
nova's mate is the white dragon
*chad was a silly result of me wanting and not having a boyfriend, so the solution was to draw this face 0___o on balloon. yep.
Nova's pose was garnered from [link] :}

Awesome picture. ^^ Nova has always been the cutest winged wolf that I've know. ^^

ooo pretty photo.. i've even seen pictures of them with blue eyes, which makes even more sense for nova ^^

That one is either leucistic or melanistic, I don't recall. Either way, the gene trait is stunning! I have a leucistic coyote pelt that, when alive, it had blue eyes even. So unique, it's really fun to see what all critters around here are.

it's totally awesome to me... makes me think a lot of folk's fantasy critters (including nova) really aren't as far from reality as i thought..

Aren't most derived from nature anyways? Either way, it really adds an air of realism to their being and still leaves so much open for the imagination to take hold of. ^^

Your character actually reminds me of the Krider's red tail (as opposed to leucistic) - they are a sub-species that can be amazingly white [link] but they still have some dark markings.
Either way it is a great character!

There are a couple of really cool redtail morphs out there, the Krider's (light/white) is my favorite - they have one at the MN raptor center and she is just gorgeous. You can see some neat other morphs here - [link] - the 'partial albino' shown there with dark eyes/beak is also a type of leucistic. [link] - there are blue eyed ones as well!

oh i've seen those blue eyed ones.. they're GORGEOUS..
i always loved gyrfalcons, just cause they were white, though i like the shape of the hawk's head better.. now i get to have the best of both worlds ^^

i like that the wingtip markings are a slightly warm 'black' on the dorsal side, and cool black on the ventral. very subtle, but a great effect.

I'm generally no big fan of winged wolves but I gotta admit that they look awsome on Nova. All those little feathers, her pose and expression... extremely beautiful and unique as always.
