Description
Okay, that title makes it sound like I was recently the victim of a tragic accident or something. No, far from it. I got myself a drawing tablet a few weeks ago, and I'm still trying to get the hang of it.I'm just showing off the main trouble I'm having. The face on the right is from something I made a couple months ago using the mouse and pen tool method I've been using for about the past nine years. The face on the left is from something I'm working on right now with my tablet. I still used a pencil and paper to get the first sketch in, and I'm using my tablet to ink it and make the final refinements. I think I'm still having a lot of trouble getting used to the stylus because I'm forced to trace over my pencil lines rather slowly, which makes it really hard to keep my hand steady, and the results are obvious.
I'm hoping when I get better with this tablet, I can make my pen strokes much faster and therefore more smoothly. I'm treating this one I'm working on now as a practice piece. I'll still be putting it up when I'm done, and if the lines are a little squiggly, so be it. I still mostly used my old techniques for my last Halloween piece because I wanted that one to be as close to perfect as I could get it. This time, I'm allowing myself to have a leaning experience since I don't have any particular time by which I have to finish it. Also, I need to keep remembering that the version I'll be displaying will only be one third the resolution of my working file. If you ever wondered what the resolution is on my working copies, you're looking at it right now. Just imagine a body attached to those heads and a background behind it and everything, and there you go.
