Description It Rained Last Night ...

I created this in some desperation as I have been struggling with my art, my mood, my health and the world in general.

I try to be a positive person but sometimes it just isn't there. Allowing oneself to express and share grief, sorrow and pain can be cathartic. Creating this tiny video and writing the companion verse has helped to lift me up to a better place. Wonderful how creativity can do that! Even if it goes missing for a while,  eventually comes back to rescue you!

It rained last night ...
Pounding the lamppost into shattered light.
Striking its glow into liquid sparks
And silver sharp needles pierce the dark

Pouring out waves of watery despair.
Escaping too soon, like this grief locked inside,
The cold, cold sky a proxy for my woe.

It rained last night ...
Ravaging the ground into oil slicked mud.
Smelting the clouds down to pools of gray lead,
Choking the drains with my abandoned hope.

And I, deceptively calm,
watched it descend,
Waiting to be that tortured lamppost,
Blurred into oblivion by my own future tears.

... It rained last night.

N.T. Green Sept. 25, 2020

The lovely wee bit of music used is a snippet from Sheltered Swan by Sascha Ende ( @ende.sascha) … the complete piece (well worth listening to) can be heard here film music.io/song/4973-sheltered-swan …or at @ccMixter .

Used under Creatives Commons license Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). I have selected a few bars from the end of the piece, added some recorded rain and merged it with my video. Video is a compilation of a timelapse of a streetlight outside my bedroom window during an extremely heavy rainfall and a double exposure of me and the forest taken in early September, 2020.
