Contest Prize for
Phew, at least I finally finished something this weekend... I was somehow not too motivated during the past week, maybe because I put a lot of energy in my studies recently and now just feel like taking a little break to relax before the new week is about to come =v= Damn it, I actually wanted to start sketching some of the other stuff I need to clear off my work list. Naw, tomorrow is the day...
Anyways, this one is the contest prize I owe to ~BeautifulEternalSun for quite a while now. I'm sorry for taking so long .A. Time passes by way too quickly most recently...
Actually a picture of one character was the prize reserved for the second place, but I liked her idea so much that I gave it a try. She asked me to draw her character Elyahishm in his laboratory with a microscope. For me that sounded like quite a challenge, and it truly was. I noticed that I have no idea how to draw a microscope although I - being a biology student at the moment - work with them regulary. I tried to recall how the one's we use in classes look like and tried to recreate their design. I think I did a decent job on the design, but probably a microscope like this would never work properly. Oh well :'D As long as it looks decent I won't complain.
What I enjoyed doing most was the chemicals, in contast to the background they are quite colorful and shiny ;v; I love shiny stuff ♥ And doing Elyahishm's fur was a lot of fun to do. I really like shading the combination of red and black ovo
Yeah... well, as it's quite late I guess I call it a day here ovo Hopefully I'll be back with some more artworks soon. Take care, guys.

Oh, don't worry XD I like challenges, and I'm always happy if I get some guidelines to work with (especially when I'm feeling art block or simply do not know what to do with the character(s) 
In general drawing (detailled) backgrounds is a matter of practise I believe. I often google for references if I have problems with objects or landscapes, and then I try to recreate them in a fitting style. Yet perspective and shading those object often turns out to be a problem for myself aswell.
As an advice for objects like microscopes and other scientific objects: look for bruised metal textures on deviantArt and use them! It makes those objects look more realistic. I didn't used one here, as I already used a bruised metal texture for the table.
And I know what you mean XD I often find glass parts on my microscope when I get it out of the shelf =^=;;
Heh, what you're describing sounds just like what I was experiencing during my last exam time. I was quite relieved when I saw the pervious exams, as the questions were fair and covered general knowledge and the important details. Mine however did not... it pretty much asked for the details, that nobody will ever care for =v=; Bad luck me :'D RIght now I'm keeping up with my studies (being in the 2nd semester by now I hope everything will simply get better soon), as I'm not sure what else I could do after all... Game Design sadly is no option, considering that they want that much money for it orz

I know what you mean. I get the same problem when I try to do commissions or doodles based off of so little information, that it makes me worry that I'm not going to make something that they would like.
D'aww. I suppose that makes sense.
And I really like how it's half body, and that you actually lifted his tail away from the ground and off to the corner. It was a really nice touch [I just love long tails, not sure why. So seeing his still in the picture, even when it's half of his body, made me "squee" even more).
References has helped in the past. I should try and draw background more often (but I have found that creating worlds in a 3D program comes smoothly to me than drawing them. While making characters is he opposite. Kinda funny xP)
But yeah, that sounds like a really good way to get a background to look nice in the image. I should start searching for some new references (once homework is done of course) in order to getting better with perspective.

I think a part of my problem is that i keep on trying to do all of it myself, to get that texture and look with a developing technique. But, I should look into textures more. I use Photoshop, so I might as well use everything that it provides me, and everything it can do instead of ignoring them. lol

Oh wow, they would leave glass parts on the microscopes? Now that's pretty bad.
Though, I've seen people in the science department leave slides with whatever bacteria/subject they put under the microscope. Gross to see stuff growing like wild fire on the slide when you go grab a a 'scope for class. Yuck.
Depending on how your professor are, and exactly what you are focusing on (I know you are a Bio Major, but each professor seems to focus on something slightly different), it could get better for you. IF you are doing well already, I don't think you have too much to worry about. It is a pain sometimes dealing with exams that have all of that meaningless stuff in it, but if you get through it and do well, you are on the right track.
As for game design, you could not get into a school for that? I know I'm going to get a Masters in Game Design in a school near my house, or at least I'm planning to, and they are not asking too much in comparison to my Digital Arts degree I'm getting now. I do know your portfolio for when you apply to a arts school would be fantastic in comparison to others who apply.
Though, there are other options that are art related as well. [I could suggest more stuff, if I knew more about you. Sorry ^^"]

Well neither do I use everything Photoshop provides, partly because I can't put it into my pictures or I simply have no idea how to use it properly xD This program sometimes seems way too extensive for drawing as it was made for editing photos in the first place. That's... also one of the reasons why I'd like to try SAI soon :3
Luckily our plant parts did't grow on the slides, but yeah... I always thought: not again =^=; I also found glass shards on my desk every lesson, so I once complained to my prof, he said he'd forward it to the responsible group. Didn't change a thing though. Come to think that we only get dismissed if everything is 100% cleaned up, so I always wondered how they got around this 
Sadly they take too much for it over here in Germany. 700€ (around $923) a month was pretty much the "cheapest" offer I found, and it didn't include the supplies. Also I'd need to move to another town, which costs even more money and sadly I don't get a grant as both of my parents work in full time jobs, but then again they don't earn enough money to be able to support my studies the way they'd like to. So... I can just hope for our state to "change" something about it one day =v=;;

Never really thought of Photoshop as being too extensive [then again, I like to use CS3 in comparison to CS5 or CS6. Though they are all practically the same thing].
Oh SAI, I've used that program here and there [my friends and my sister uses it all the time]. It's really tablet friendly, and smooth to use, once you get the hang of it. IT's a rather neat program.
Oh wow. Glass shards? It's not that difficutl to clean that up...and if the class can't leave until everything's cleaned up, makes me wonder if it's actually the students doing it, or if the professors actually don't care during certain classes.
That, or it could be students coming in to work on assignments that aren't in a class. Like, seniors working on their senior thesis? Or random students thinking it would be fun messing with the Bio major's equipment [sounds like something you'll see in high-school, but it happens].
Wow, that IS quite a lot of money. 0.o
Maaan, that really sucks. I do hope that it would be fixed in the near future, that way you can have all the funds you need for your studies [if I worked and had cash to spare, I could help out. Even if it was a little].

Practically I haven't noticed any big changes since CS2 besides the interface xD I like the one used in CS5 better, as everything has it's fixed place and stuff =w=;;
I think it wasn't that much about the profs, more about their assistents. Most often they just "want to get the hell out of there", so as long there is no blood on the table everything is considered "fine". As the room is locked when no one is inside I guess it's not seniors or other students messing around o^o
Well I don't think I could ever accept that ;v; I'd somehow feel guilty I guess. But still, thanks a lot ♥

True. CS5 is nice and CS6 has that elegant black theme going on. Not sure why it's black now, but it looks pretty cool xD
Ah, I see. The assistants aren't doing their jobs. Guh, I hate it when people just think everything fine and leave without taking the time to make sure everything's clean [reason why in the Digital Art's lab we kept on losing equipment since one of the TA's would leave the door open when they are suppose to close up].
I guess not. Unless they get a key/code for the door.

Yes... and no actually. I had to order the cosplay as my grandmother believed we wouldn't be able to do it for the price it was offered online ;v; So I ordered it about a week ago. When it arrives it'll probably need some fiing though o^o The convention is in September, so there's still some time left xP

I heard you can ride the males, but no news for the female goat pokemon. Too bad that you can only ride them in a specific part of the Kalos Region.
Oh, but I did see that some pokemon can have this "ultimate" form. Kinda like Mewtwo's second form in the new movie.
Oh, you're getting Froakie? Lol, sounds like what my sis wants. I want that cute little Fennekin. <3 (I always started with a Fire starter...well, until Black/White came...I really didn't like that Fire Starter x-x).

My Pokémon OC Viola has a Froakie, also my Mum loves frogs and I thought it was kinda cute =v= I think the majority of my friends will go with Fennekin, too (and so will I in case I get Pokémon X, too XD) so taking an other starter might be useful if we want to do some trading ovo;
So far Pokémon games have always been fun to play xD And as my best friend will get it as well it will be utterly awesome for me ;v; So far =ShadowSinty and I haven't played a Pokémon game together, so I'm all excited by now already >A<
If they'd ever make a game featuring all the regions... that would be too awesome for words to describe it ;n;

So very true. That's good, it's great to have a buddy to play the game with. I think, my sis is still planning on getting it after we both get a 3DS (she's dying to have a purple one). So, she will be my buddy to play with (she's debating on Froakie and Fennekin. She loves frogs with mustaches, and foxes 8D)
I think if that ever happen, all the pokemon fans would faint of sheer joy and just immediately buy it. 8D

My Mum actually said one day: everyone likes cats, or dogs, or rabbits. I want a more outstanding favourite animal. I'm going to like frogs the most from now on, because they are adorable.
And ever since then my sister and I are finding all kind of frog souvenirs everywhere we go - most often we end up buying some for my mother, too. So, in the end, my Mum has a giant collection of frogs by now haha ^^
Probably xD They'd make so much money with it, so I'm really surprised that they didn't create that one game yet o_o;

Lol. Well, I heard that it was with only certain pokemon, only during battle, and if that pokemon hold a special item. So, I guess it's like a powerup item or something. Kinda like when an electric type holds Magnet and get's a boost in electrical power. But, I'm not exactly sure of all the details. x-x
And perhaps Nintendo wanted to try "something new." Though the whole Mega Evolutions are kinda being ripped off of Digimon. They had mega first.
Birds aren't on the list? A know a lot of people who just LOVE birds, 'cause they have beautiful feathers or that they are so intelligent that they can talk.
Though, it would be cool to have a pet fox (I heard that somewhere they were domesticating foxes and found that they act just like dogs. Which would be a no duh since they are in the same family).

Ah, that's pretty cool. A frog collection. Hmmm, in order to get all the different types of frogs, that means you have to travel. If you go to Hawaii, there is a frog called the koki which are suppose to be extremely cute 8D
Though, a lot of frogs are cute. I know Puerto Rico sell frog statues, since I used to have one from there when I was a kid (I think my grandma gave it to me and my sister). It was so cute...I wonder where it disappeared to x-x

Na ja xD Anne und Cloud sind jetzt beide auch nicht die kreativsten FanCharas, das geb ich zu XD Schwarz + irgendeine Farbe ist schließlich eine beliebte Kombination.
Labore sind in der Regel nicht düster (da kann ich mittlerweile von Erfahrung sprechen), macht ja auch Sinn - man sollte besser sehen können, was man tut ^^ Ansonsten stimme ich dir zu XDD

For me it's most often like this: I come home, eat something and realize that it's already quite late. Then my subconsciousness is like: nah, you won't do much today anymore anyway, so why not relax a litte? After all you got to go to university again tomorrow anyway. But I decided to slap my subconsciousness from now on D: < Just one more Contest Prize and one more Birthday Gift to go and I'm quite free 
And I even did some Anime practise last week mwhahaha :3
