Description
This is an overlay of two separate 3-step HDR images taken in China in June of 2009. The background is the countryside of Anhui province, near the foothills of the Yellow Mountains and only a few kilometres outside the urban centre of Huangshan City, referred to locally as Tunxi District or simply Tunxi. The entire prefecture has a population of less than 1,5 million as of 2010.
This stands in rather stark contrast with the vast "global" city in which the foreground subject is located. The Pearl Tower, or Oriental Pearl, is a major communications and broadcasting centre in Pudong, Shanghai. Shanghai is, in turn, officially the largest city in the world by population (having over 23 million residents in 2010) and also the largest city proper in the world in the same respect.
In future, I hope to create more works similar to this, depicting the vast and striking diversity of China with regards to everything from culture, architecture, and population to landscape, environment, and terrain.
This and other similar works of mine are categorized as "Miscellaneous Processes" because the other two options are "Digital Overlays" and "HDR," both of which are post-processing methods I use, among others.
The Shanghai photo was taken with a Nikon D60 and 18-55mm wide-angle kit lens with a simple polarizing filter, while the Anhui photo was in fact taken with a basic Canon PowerShot A550 point-and-shoot...through a bus window!
