Description
This is a modern and more vibrant, though hopefully equally interpretive, rendering of my June 2009 photograph "Relationship."Original:
It is a tradition for those who live near the Yellow Mountains (Huangshan) in Anhui Province, China to climb the main path to a beautiful overlook, where they affix a (usually engraved) padlock to the guard-chain. This is symbolic of their eternal bond, and stems from an ancient Chinese myth wherein a noble young woman and her lower-class lover eloped and placed their own padlock on Huangshan, which is thought to be a holy place.
I am not spiritual at all, but the mountains are breathtaking and the way the fog rolls in is also stunning (and sometimes scary!) Overall, it's pretty other-worldly in a wonderful way.
Visiting is quite an experience, and I would love to go back!
