Description This is a multi-layered, fused image created from three separate HDR shots of Taipei, capital of Taiwan ROC.

The culture there, specifically with regards to nightlife, is similar to what one might expect from Tokyo or Seoul - except the primary language is Mandarin Chinese, and the food you find in the large open-air markets is distinctly Chinese and Taiwanese.

I greatly enjoyed my stay in Taipei for a week towards the end of June of 2009. This was mostly due to the fact that I could communicate with the Taipei residents much more easily than those on the mainland; I am considerably more used to the typical Taiwanese accent than, say, those predominant in Beijing or Shanghai. And it's all the same dialect primarily spoken in those three examples!

Additionally, Taiwan still uses exclusively Traditional Chinese characters, with which I was at the time much more familiar. In fact, I didn't understand the Simplified character system even remotely well until college, even after two weeks on the mainland!

This photo brings back nice memories for me, of the wonderful food and tropical fruits to the clothes I bought (and still wear) and the taxi drivers, tube system, cheap fares, and our stay at the fantastic Grand Hotel.

I hope you like my work as well!
