The awesome equine photographer ~Olga5 was kind enough to allow me to use her photos as reference for painting. I had a hard time choosing one as they are all so great! Please visit her gallery , I promise it'll be worth your time
I wanted to do something differently with this so I tried to mimic the photo more than I usually do. I wanted to attempt photorealism with a painterly touch. Not sure how well I succeeded but it was fun doing something differently anyway.
Photoshop and wacom tablet , about 4 hours , 3 layers.

What an interesting style here. I like the wavy/curly mane and the highlights in it. Nice job with the background too. I still find it amazing how you can do something so detailed in such a short amount of time. Great work.
