Description
What exactly inspired me to do this, I can’t quite say, but I do remember wondering if anyone had made any Final Fantasy parody logos, and found to my disappointment that there weren’t any. Figuring out some of these were tricky, and really I didn’t have much of a plan in mind beyond just making as many variants as I could, in the order of whatever I thought of, first. Each logo [except for the first one] represents a different era of the franchise; the second one represents Mata Nui, the third represents Metru Nui, Gresh represents the Glatorian era, and G2 Tahu represents the Gen2 era as a whole. The Kanohi Ignika actually encompasses what I like to think of as the ‘Mask of Life Saga’, following Ignition, Mahri Nui, and Karda Nui.
The most difficult were the last two, since I used coloring page edits I found on Google Images, but found I had to fill in the darker spaces in order to make them more resemble the types of figure art in the official logos. The Metru Nui version was also a touch tricky. At first, I thought I wanted a complete skyline of the island city behind the logo, and while I was able to find some art that could provide that, as I was trying to put it all together, it just looked too busy, so eventually, I settled on just cutting out the Colosseum and using that, alone. I actually think it works out even better, as the far more simplistic silhouette with the simple, yet harshly contrasted gradient gives a very haunting, ominous tone; perfect for a setting that’s basically the Bionicle-version of ‘1984’.
The reason I used the Mask of Life to represent three eras is simply down to the fact that finding good stencils of those eras is proving to be next to impossible, at the moment. I have a Matoro Ignika asset, but making a suitable stencil out of that is still a work in progress. And no, the coloring page generators I found online haven’t been suitable.
My favorite of these is actually the Mata Nui version, since despite it’s simplicity, it feels like it has the most going on, and making a silhouette of the iconic corrupted Hau merged with the island actually looks pretty fantastic, and the color gradient of the FF logos helps this effect, even more.
Actually, as I think about it; Bionicle fits pretty well into the FF brand style, as a whole. It’s multiple eras, with different parties -Metru Nui, Mata Nui, Voya and Mahri Nui, Karda Nui, and Bara Magna, all fit in very nicely with how each numerical entry is a completely different timeline.
Heck; now that I think about it, Gen2 being a complete reboot of the most popular era, yet may have intentional, alternate timeline ties to the old timeline… is strikingly reminiscent of how ‘Final Fantasy 7 Remake’ is a reboot of the most popular game, yet also doubles as a meta-sequel, with Aerith and Sephiroth even conscious of the original timeline. Weird.
